Venice To Go....

Very good guide. Great map and pictures. Focuses on the top 10 things in each area. This is for Italy not California. When in California don't buy a guide just ask someone

A Handy Guide to Venice

This is a great handy book for those people who don't need oodles and oodles of information about Venice. It points out all the most-popular sights, plus has a really useful pull-out maps. It's really just enough information you need to explore all the best that Venice has to offer. But what it lacks in detailed information it more than makes up in its convenient size. It's very handy and fits into any small bag or ladies' purses. I usually prefer these types of books, as they are easy to travel with.

All the information you'll need (but get a detailed map)

My wife and I spent three nights in Venice and this book had all the information on tourist sites, restaurants, shopping, etc., that you will need. As with all the "Top Ten" books, the format is to list top ten sites, top ten churches, top ten shops, top ten restaurants, etc. for Venice as a whole, and then breaks it down into top ten lists for each section of the city. The format leads to some redundacy, but I have always found the Top Ten volumes ideal because they contain all the information you need in a smallish, slim volume that will fit easily in a purse. This volume is 7.5 inches X 4 inches and less than half an inch thick. The only problem with the book is that the maps are somewhat inadequate. Venice is an easy city to get lost in, and it would be worth it to invest in a good, detailed map in addition to this book. (One problem with mapping Venice is that most streets have very long names that often change each block.) This was our first trip to Venice and it will definitely not be our last. We're saving this book for our next trip.

Brief and to the point

I am planning a brief visit to Venice (a few days before/after a cruise) so I was looking for a good guide of just the highlights. These Eyewitness guides are really great because they give you the info to the point and they have great pictures. Already found very useful hotel and restaurant recommendations in this book. These guides are portable and a great companion on your trip. If you need more in depth info you can always find it on the net anyway.

A molto buono pocketful of information

I'd arrived with Fodor's, the Rough Guide and the Red Michelin. Edith showed up with this... I hated the stupid title, but envied the size and weight... all my travel books were so big I needed a bag to carry any of them. Looking inside the Eyewitness Top 10, I discovered that it contained up-to-date, accurate information, maps, addresses and tips, as well as historical facts and interesting anecdotes and trivia. The dining information was reliable and the shopping tips checked out. When Edith left, I borrowed her copy for the next two weeks and found it to be a good companion. The other books were useful when I was in our rented apartment, but this one was by far the best to carry.(For Venice's confusing maze of calles, pontes, and sottoportegos, you'll still want a large detailed map besides those in the book.)
