great

this book is awsome and if you like football you will most likely like this. Also the other books in this series are great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So underrated--don't understand why..this is one of the most inspiring manga ever

Why are more people not reading and celebrating this classic of manga storytelling??? Eyeshield 21 has become one of my favorite mangas to read every other month for many reasons: 1. Football!! If you're a football fan and you're not reading this..it's a crime. The season starts in Aug and ends in Jan.--this manga is all year long and every volume is filled with atleast one game. 2. This is probably some of the finest manga artwork ever in SJ...cartoony, superheroic, accessible, ultra realistic in moments of heartbreak and/or drama. If you require good manga art (face it not all of the most popular manga actually have GREAT art..just moreso passable) then this one is in the top 3 easy. lastly, the story is highly inspirational. What could have been a pathetic attempt at showcasing 'losers' who make it big..not one character does not ring true. All are different and all have smoe great arcs in the football matches and between the tournaments. This volume covers a running subplot with a character named Musashi who was once our protagonist team's kicker but had to quit to save his father's company..during a grueling match with the opposing (and dominant offensively) Siebu Wild Gunmen, Musashi must make a choice--leave his father and go back to playing football or give up on his friends..while it may sound easy--the story clearly details the high emotions involved with this character and his father that any man will understand and likewise, Seibu is a sympathetic team...Deimon might not win even if Musashi returns..and it's this drama that makes the book great. Pick this up--it's a must read. This volume doesn't get a perfect score as this one isn't the powerful emotional game that previous volumes have been (particularly 14-15 covering a midget player on Deimon who must overcome his size to defeat a team which features very tall offensive linemen and running backs--his fight and overcoming the odds is a great testament to what football is all about). Since this volume ends on a cliffhanger..I'm confident Volume 17 will be another 5 star book.
