Reviewed by Carol Hoyer, PhD, for Reader Views (7/09) From the moment readers start to read they will find themselves caught up in the life of Mitch and Angie - a couple who fell madly in love and dreamed of a wonderful life together. But there was another side of Mitch Angie didn't know about. He wanted everything perfect in his world and he would accept no less, even in his wife. He began controlling her by making very strong suggestions about what she should do about working, her family and friends. Angie knew this wasn't how she wanted to live her life, but felt she had no control until she accidentally met Ross Stafford. Ross is everything Mitch isn't and Angie is pulled into his strength, wisdom and loving nature. Thinking that her friendship with Ross is a secret, Angie continues to be pulled into his world; little did she know Mitch knew everything. While on a trip to Paris, Mitch attempts to kill Angie. He has no idea that she has escaped safely and has taken refuge in France, changing her name, her lifestyle and her appearance. Living in an isolated home, she begins to discover herself again and lives for the day that she will reconnect with Ross. This is a book that will have you rooting for Angie and Ross and wishing that Mitch would just magically disappear. The characters are built gradually so that you can relate to them in every way. Parts of the book will make a reader mad and thinking of different ways to get rid of the "monster." "Explosion in Paris" by Linda Masemore Pirrung is really a very fascinating book in every way.

Craftily written, great sense of imagery and totally engaging.....

I must say, if I'd read the plot-teaser on the back of the hardcover first, I probably would not have bought the book. There was so much more to this book than that implied. It will begin slowly, setting up the characters, but with each turn of the page you will be drawn into a fascinating, well written story of a journey of self-discovery, tortured souls, and the kind of real romance that you can only find in Cary Grant movies. This is a reader's paradise, pure reading pleasure. The delicious writing: The deftly manipulated words will pierce your skin and enter your blood stream and will hold you captive long after you have finished the book. You will marvel at some of the insights the author conveys throughout and in the Afterward when the story ends. This is a meaningful, moving, heartwarming story, replete with the grief suffered from life's trying disappointments and unfortunate fate, love, and personal closure. I love that the author depicts the protagonist as "happily alone" and comfortable with herself. France, where a lot of the transformation takes place, is almost a character in itself. When everything was tied up in the end of the book, I still didn't want to leave this world behind. DREAM ON! I have a passion for the extraordinary texture of the written word and the wondrous paths they weave to create the exciting world that I can escape to. I was entranced; I felt; I saw; I heard; I was completely immersed in the story. Books are a dime a dozen but "keepers" are rare. EXPLOSION IN PARIS is a "keeper"!

AN ULTIMATELY REWARDING READ!

The author created a wonderful premise with a storyline to support it. The only criticism I have is that I'd love to have had more to read about life in France . This is a beautiful tale of rebirth, being freed by the truth and the unburdening of the soul in search of wholeness. The ominous Mitch character is depicted early on and establishes the unhealthy atmosphere that the reticent Angie feels she must endure. This insight into her plight provides the reader with understanding and forgiveness when Ross comes on the scene and turns her world upside down. What transpires is that Angie grows and learns much about herself. There are cringe-worthy moments, genuinely troubling circumstances, not to mention, life-altering violence that will keep the reader riveted. The scene of the explosion was nothing less than horrific, as the reader feels the terror and dismay. The story takes place in various, exciting locales, as the mystery unravels. I think that what appeals to so many people is that, at one time or another, in their lives, they may have dreamed of a drastic change in their lives. A change for good; we become the people we really want to be, in a place we really want to live. It is like being reborn. The paradigm shift will inspire you to think really hard about the way you see yourself in the world. This book delivers the message loud and clear. The plot twisted itself around my heart. Some of the words are permanently etched in my mind. Powerful...Enthralling...HAPPY ENDING! Add this to your treasure trove!
