Originally published by Cambridge in 1991, this text has become an indispensable volume not only for teachers and students of international history and political science, but also general readers... This description may be from another edition of this product.
The book has contributions from numerous current historians, giving a retrospective analysis of US foreign relations since World War 1. Perhaps the most salient feature was the decline of isolationist writings amongst mainstream historians, especially after the US entered World War 2. This was largely replaced by an internationalist and sometimes exceedingly interventionist approach during the Cold War. Some sections also speculate on future trends in American foreign policy. The post Cold War period has now segued into a possible protracted conflict against Islamist terrorism. The implications of this are briefly looked at.
