It was a desperately hot night on August 16, 1888 and many people were out in "the Chute" - the seedy underbelly of Louisville, Kentucky. The deaths of the two family men, both of whom left behind wives and children, would strike a chord with Louisville citizens and the impact of their sacrifice reverberates until the present time.
