Excellent Read

To have a book that is 746 pages long (paperback) keep my interest says it must be good. One of the best books of this type I have read. Have no idea why a number of readers had so many problems. I'm just sorry the writer has nothing further coming out after the sequel.

A hair-raising page-turner!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. If you like suspense, intrigue, betrayal, lust, and heroism, you'll find them all here. Mix in a little history and technology for flavor. It's rare to be surprised anymore, but I found that here too! The plot was startling but plausible, a tough balance. The characters were easy to grab on to quickly, so I became immersed within the first few pages. Many intrigue novels fail here, but the characters that populated this book really popped out - familiar, but original, fresh, and interesting - with enough good and bad to ring true. Most of all, I couldn't stop turning the pages. Get it. Read it. You wont be disappointed!

EXECUTIVE ACTIONS GETS MY VOTE!

EXECUTIVE ACTIONS by Gary Grossman is a wildly imaginative political thriller. In the weeks before the election of 2004 it is immediate and exciting to read. I can only speculate how it will read post-election. This is Grossman's first novel and it is set sometime in the future--but not very far in the future and perhaps sooner than we might think. No doubt Executive Actions will be compared to The Manchurian Candidate. Here, an alarmingly plausible plot turns and then twists on an attempt to steal an election. I can't think of another novel where the outcome hinges on Constitutional interpretation. The author has drawn on his experience as a newspaper reporter, television producer, media expert and teacher. The mounting and far-ranging plot unfolds episodically beginning with the abrasive host of the McLaughlin Group weighing the political chances of the two fictional presidential contenders. Grossman juggles a large cast; it is a tribute to his skill that this reader was able to keep them straight. Mainly, we follow Secret Service agent Scott Roarke in his attempts to foil would-be evildoers. When the head of Homeland Security says, "I believe that the ways, means, and manner that individuals around the world have devised to destroy our economy, our government, or our lives is beyond our wildest imagination. But we must recognize the possibilities when they are presented." Recent history, newspapers, television and reading Gary Grossman's Executive Actions--leads me to conclude: We had better believe that!

After an exhausting week of business in South Africa, I break out "Executive Actions" on the plane. Could't put it down. A tremendous thriller anchored enough in today's political and security environment to be believable, but also allowing the imagination to run at a red hot pace! A mind-blowing plot, paced like The Bourne Supremacy! And, oh, the scientific and technical factoids! All right on the money. It's Best Seller material!

Though it is fictional, it really makes you wonder what is possible as far as sleeper cells & terrorism.Grossman expertly weaves political intrigue with action, and introduces characters that you root for and want to learn more about & it keeps you guessing until the end.
