Your Secret Weapon?

As a former student of Professor Ellen Auster's, I can personally tell you that she is incredibly inspiring in the classroom. Her students are all privileged to have been exposed to someone who is as knowledgeable about the subject matter as she is. But it is her teaching style and skill that set her apart and make her such a star in the classroom.Now, as someone who will start as faculty and begin teaching at a business school next year, this book will be my SECRET WEAPON. I recommend this book to all other rookie profs out there who are looking for some guidance in not just surviving, but excelling in the business classroom. The "Quick Start Guide" format of this book (with its "At a Glance" pointers, its easily replicable and very relevant "Samples & Worksheets" and its FAQs) are enough if you don't have a lot of time. But I recommend that you read the whole thing ... the advice about not just WHAT to do but also the reasons WHY are very insightful.

Useful frameworks for teaching

I got this guide book over the summer and have used a number of the frameworks in my classes this past semester. They are easy to implement and really work. The ideas are simple, but very creative. I've shared the book with colleagues and think it has some great ideas to help professors get better organized before class and stay organized during the class. The ideas for gathering feedback are top notch.My only complaint is that I wanted more! The book is targetted at first time profs, and I'm a veteran. Even so, I found useful stuff in here an enthusiastically recommend the guide to professors who want to improve their connections with their students. Rookies should find it especially helpful.
