For those who do not have time to......

read The Count of Monte Cristo, this book will do. It is a modern day take of "Monte Cristo". Of course, the hero, Raymond White is no Edmond Dantes but if you truly do not have the time to read the original, this version is altered for the twentieth century and was also very fun to read. With that being said, PLEASE take time to read the original version as it is one of the greatest literature of all time and also one of the most exciting and entertaining of all.

A great read

I enjoyed the comparison and simalarities to the Count of Monte Cristo. Is is obvious what Green is trying to accomplish with this novel- a modern day Dumas thriller of revenge and greed. Green was brilliant in his character development and the plot is plausible. It was like watching a modern day remake of an old movie- it still keeps the classic style, but the special effects and modern day settings make Exact Revenge one of Green's best work. You will not be disapointed.

A marvelous delight

As I roamed throughout Borders, I kept one thing in mind. I wanted to find as interesting a book as I possibly could. After reading the backs of many "Best Sellers", I came across Exact Revenge, by Tim Green. I read the summary and was immediately stimulated. Exact Revenge is a brilliant novel that is quite similar in plot, to The Count of Monte Cristo. In exact revenge, the main character, Raymond White, seems to have it all: A beautiful girlfriend, money, and a republican nomination for the Senate. Everything seems to be working out for Raymond until a dieing Republican, Roger Williamson, asks Raymond to deliver a top secret note to a specific address without telling anyone. Raymond follows these directions and delivers the envelope, but he makes a vital mistake while doing so, a mistake that would undoubtedly change his future. His Girlfriend's friend, Frank, finds out about the letter, and with the help of three other envious politicians, they frame Raymond by murdering the woman who received the letter from Roger. This novel follows Raymond throughout thirty years of jail, where he meets a man who changes his life. Mr. Cole teaches Raymond many things which improve Raymond's understanding of life. But most importantly, Mr. Cole teaches Raymond about the art of exact revenge, an art where one seeks revenge and returns the pain endured ten fold. Once Raymond escapes from jail, the reader is in for a treat as Raymond changes his look, becomes Seth Cole, finds an unbelievable treasure, and attempts to seek exact revenge on those who ruined his life. I thoroughly enjoyed Exact Revenge. The biggest reason is probably because The Count Of Monte Cristo is my favorite book ever. Tim Green does an excellent job by placing The Count Of Monte Cristo's plot in the 1970's, through the year 2005. I do not view this novel as a poor remake, but an enlightening alteration. Exact Revenge is placed in an era that I could relate to. The main character, Raymond White (later known as Seth Cole) is an adverse character that is meant to be well admired by the reader. He plans every little detail out, and maintains his composure throughout the novel. I believe that although Exact Revenge quotes The Count Of Monte Cristo, it should not be directly linked because of the many differences. Exact Revenge takes place in many locations, but mostly in New York. Raymond White also ends up buying the New York Jets, which further stimulated me because of my strong passion for sports. Overall, I really enjoyed Exact Revenge, and would recommend this masterpiece to anyone.

MOVE OVER PATTERSON- My New Favorite Author Is Tim Green

Excellent book. It kept me wanting more. Along the lines of Count of Monte Cristo. Good Guy gets ruined by bad guys, good guy remakes himself gets even. I found myself reading and extra 2-3 chapters with my booklight until I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. I really enjoyed this one!

A Surprising, Delighting and Entrancing Work

One could reasonably conclude that Tim Green is a fairly busy guy. He is a practicing attorney, hosts a television show, is a commentator on a number of others, and most importantly is a husband and father. And, somewhere in the pause of all those day's occupations, he writes. He has penned two nonfiction works and a bunch of novels, of which his latest, EXACT REVENGE, is his tenth. It is also, by the way, his best. Considering he is such a busy guy, you would think that Green's writing would suffer, but he actually has gotten better and more focused with each novel. Raymond White, the protagonist in EXACT REVENGE, has the world by the tail with a downhill pull. He is engaged to a gorgeous woman, earning megabucks with a law firm, and about to be nominated for a seat in Congress. All he does is perform an errand that is more an act of kindness than anything else, and --- BOOM! --- his world comes crashing down. White is arrested, tried, and convicted of murder --- oh yeah, that Congressional seat goes down the drain, too --- and he finds himself sitting in a maximum-security prison. White is there for a long time --- twenty years --- figuring out that he got set up and the how, why, and whom of it. But there's not much he can do, as his appeals are all exhausted. Help arrives from an unexpected source, namely a wizened convict who White dramatically befriends and who in turn provides White with a way out, and a way back. White has had twenty years to plot a revenge against the people who wronged him, and he's a patient man. He also knows that killing would be too good for them, because it's too quick. He's aware that revenge is a lunch that is best eaten cold. And slowly. EXACT REVENGE is influenced by the classic work THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO, and Green both acknowledges and pays tribute to that work by including quotations from it at the commencement of each section of EXACT REVENGE. Even if you are intimately familiar with Alexandre Dumas's classic work, however, Green's updated homage will surprise, delight and entrance. Recommended. --- Reviewed by Joe Hartlaub
