Do you like to know where civilizations come from?

I would suggest this book to a certain type of person. I would recommend this book to a teacher of Ancient, or European History, for even though it does not actually involved anything that would actually be covered in the class it would be useful to know of the Etruscans, and this book gives a pretty good basic idea of the Etruscans. I would also suggest this book to a teacher of Latin or Ancient Greek, for the same reason. And to anyone who likes to read about where civilizations come from, or who likes to read about ancient cultures, I would absolutely suggest this book. I would not suggest this book, however, to someone who `wants a good book to read'. The Etruscans were a people in Italy, just north of Rome. This book's information is based on the art of the Etruscans. Dr. Macnamara starts with the origins and history of the Etruscans and then goes on to focus on the major parts of, what would have been to them, everyday life; everything from possessions to religion, from industry to literature, and from war to leisure. This book was well written in a format that understandable. However, it is sometimes easy to get lost if you do not know much about the civilization. With so much focus on the art and the pictures being not very detailed, it is sometimes had to see where Dr. Macnamara is getting all this information. This book seems to have been written for a student wanting to do a report on the Etruscans or the art of Ancient Italy, or for another scholars use on writing her/his own paper/book In the Everyday Life of The Etruscans Dr. Macnamara's thesis was on how the Etruscans incorporated the other peoples, who the Etruscans had involvement with, into their own ways. Most of the conclusions drawn by Dr. Macnamara were extracted from the sculpture and other arts of the Etruscans. While this book could stand on its own merits, it is actually a development from many other authors combined with the work of Dr. Macnamara. Dr. Macnamara incorporates the works of others and her own studies of the Etruscans and the arts. While this book is not the only of its kind it is the most basic one I have found, everything is made simple. Dr. Macnamara does not try to go over the heads of her readers, it is a complicated subject in itself.
