Book Overview

James Herriot's final work and last in his beloved series of animal stories This fifth and final of James Herriot's heartwarming story collections brings back familiar friends (including old favorites such as Tricki Woo) and introduces new ones, including Herriot's children Rosie and Jimmy and the marvelously eccentric vet Calum Buchanan. As James grows older, he finds that change comes even to his beloved Yorkshire---but not necessarily bad, as he...

Wonderful book

I love James Herriot books. A well written and relaxing read. Just pour yourself a cup of tea rest in your easy chair and travel into his world.

This fifth book is a wonderful addition to the original four book series which began with All Creatu

All the James Herriot books are flat out wonderful. The stories are real, touching, and often compelling to hear. On top of it all is an animal lover's perspective presented in discussion of animals. Everything Herriot has written should be highly recommended to everyone for any variety of reasons.

Gently humorous

This book is the last book written by James Herriot - actually James Alfred Wight (1916-95). James, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, qualified as a veterinarian at 23 years of age, and quickly fell with his new location of Yorkshire. Beginning in 1970, James began to write books, reaching into his years of experience as a vet, and spinning out enthralling and entertaining stories of things that did happen and things that might have happened on the Yorkshire Dales. As I said, this book was James's last, being published in 1992. In it, we read adventures of a country vet, doing battle against disease, hypochondriac pet-owners, uncooperative animals, the weather, other vets, and...just about everything. This is another great James Herriot - All Creatures book, one that I loved as much as the earlier books. If you like good storytelling, or are interested in veterinarians, then you will love this book. It is a gently humorous story that is sure to entertain all. I highly recommend it!

indescribable

As gifted a story teller as he is a veterinarian, James Herriot has the rare ability to bring out every emotion known to the human race with a single magical flick of his pen. Every Living Thing is without a doubt one of the crowning achievements of a master, and is possessed by a single, true trait that is difficult to find in many commercial books- every single tale is told straight from the heart. You will never fail to laugh at the hilarious tales and cry at the most poignant moments. If you're an animal lover, or even just have a passing interest in animals, this is a book you will hold on to and re-read until the end of your days. Kudos, James Herriot, you are very much missed.

A Wonderful End to a Fantastic Series of Books!

I have read each of James Herriot's books many times (including this one) and still enjoy them every time I read them! This book is one of my favorite books of the series, and is highly recommended by me. If you have read the other books you will love this one just as much if not more! If you have not read any of the other books, this book would also be a good one to start off with. After reading it I can assure you that you will want to read all the others. NOTE: I also have all five of these books on audio tape (by Christopher Timothy) and would recommend these as well! It is great to listen to them while you do hobbies since you can actually do two things at the same time, and Christopher Timothy (who played James Herriot in the BBC series) really brings the characters to life, using different voices and accents.

enchanting!

i absolutley loved this story. james herriot brings out such great detail in his storytelling. i can easily picture in my mind all the details and feel like i am living there. it is about a wonderful time gone be never to be recaptured again, unless you read james herriot's books.

A book to remember

I love this book! If you love animals and good writing you will love it too. The stories about Calum's badger and dogs will make you laugh and this book is perfect to curl up by the fire with.
