"Etty of Elfers" is a glimpse into the daily life of a young girl and her family in the tiny village of Elfers, Florida in 1911. Houses are few and far between. There is no electricity or central heat, or air conditioning and no indoor plumbing. Sandy rutted wagon tracks pass for roads and are as likely to be traveled by roaming free-range cows as villagers in buggies and horse-drawn wagons. Automobile sightings are rare. Etty is bright and curious, and to her mother's dismay, quite a tomboy. She and her older brother and little sister are always up for adventure that often turns into misadventure.
