Interesting stories from an often overlooked subjust

This book was one of my favorites when I was growing up. It details the ingenuity, complex planning, hard work, and real risks that our Allied POWS took trying to escape during their incarceration as POWs in the German camps during WW II. The stories are riveting, the details and pictures are excellent, and the book conveys the values of hard work, discipline, and risk-taking needed to succeed in seemingly impossible situations. Rather than succumb to despair and defeat, these men rose to the occasion and some actually succeeded in escaping. However, the main point to the book shows that the quality of the human spirit can not be broken by any amount of concrete, barbed wire, or armed guards. Still to this day, when I get depressed and think my cushy life is "unbearable," I think of the stories of these men and how they responded to their situations. Thinking of them, the hardships that they endured, and their responses helps me to put my problems into a proper perspective. I am glad that the book was still available.
Pretty Good Book

The book has it's pros and cons. It is great because it lists all of the different escape attempts by allied POW's during the war, but the only downside is that each story is some what short. Each story averages between 15 to 20 pages. It is still a nice book that gives you a nice overview of the escape attempts though.
