Entertaining-even for adults!

I picked this book up after meeting the author at a book signing in Toronto (as an aside- he was lovely!). My husband and I both read it and thought that it was great- we couldn't put it down! I would imagine that younger readers (whom the book is techinally aimed at) would get even more out of it! Overall this book is creative, funny, and an overall good read!

Creative and comedic

Epoch is a creative, comedic take on the end of days. The book starts out appropriately with an apocalypse-themed science fair, where fourteen-year-old Vincent ends up seeing an elf. He eventually becomes entangled with a myriad of other quirky characters and creatures, learning that the end of days isn't just a fad, but coming -- within the next forty-eight hours, in fact. Only humanity is at risk, doomed to become demon food since this epoch will cause a new species to dominate Earth. There are portal sites they can use to get to another dimension before then, but no humans seem to be aware of them. It's up to Vincent and his friends to make sure they do, and to find out where the portal sites even are in the first place. While this book appears to be just a fun, silly fantasy, it has enough dark moments laced throughout to keep it from seeming ridiculous. Thoroughly amusing and engrossing, I eagerly read this book to see how it would end -- literally -- and was not disappointed. Epoch is one of the better young adult paranormals I've read in a while, and anyone tired of the same trite themes and keen for lots of laughs would not regret picking this book up.
