Insightful and encouraging

This is a stellar book. As one who has made a career of helping people eliminate physical clutter from their homes, Peter Walsh understands that physical clutter is not the problem; it is a symptom of a larger issue with a person's life. Clutter problems, weight problems, spending problems, health problems, and relationship problems are all related in the sense that they arise from mental clutter first. Walsh helps the reader take a candid look at his/her life and identify where and how to eliminate the clutter. He nails the issues dead on, and you will undoubtedly see yourself somewhere in this book. He provides tips for how to get out of whatever mess you're in, and encourages you to believe that you will overcome. The beauty of Walsh's book is that it takes a holistic view of the person, which is the only type of perspective that makes sense. We are all comprised of a body, a soul, and a spirit, and when any of those components is out of whack, we can feel it in every area of our lives. I highly recommend this book. Walsh can help you get your life back on track again and feel good about yourself, and in the process you will rediscover your joy, your dreams, and the ability to live in the here and now, where life is really happening.

Imagine the life you want?

I would give this book more stars if I could. One passage in particular totally opened my eyes to one thing I was doing to sabotage myself. Something I never realized was damaging my life in the way it was. Something that should have been obvious to me, but was not. I changed that behavior and it changed my life, as well as changing the way other people related to me. No kidding! I was already a fan of Peter Walsh from his book "It's All Too Much", which deals with the physical clutter that inhabits so much of our lives. If physical clutter and too much *stuff* in your environment is your problem, I recommend that book first before you even start this one. Take care of the physical clutter and a lot of the resulting emotional clutter will resolve itself. This book completely separates itself from the last book and starts to deal with the invisible clutter that comes from relationships, work, family, money, health, and sense of well-being. It is about your mental environment. You can easily move around the book chapters to various aspects of your life, skipping over the chapters that do not apply to your circumstances. The same exact principles are used in each area. This can get boring if you are reading the book cover to cover, but it does reinforce the principles used. You will not miss out on something because you chose to skip over something that did not apply to your life right now. This is one of those books that you need to "take the best and leave the rest"... not everything in this book will apply to you or your life, and some of the activities are not really that helpful. But he is very straightforward in his writing. He gives the reader a lot to think about and a lot to work on. Things like time and space and priorities. Why we make the choices we do. It all boils down to one question "What is your vision for the life you want to live?" He can help you make the choices and work on the actions that will give you that life. Is your mental clutter contributing to what you want or getting in your way? He asks over and over again "If you don't love it, why do you have it? If it doesn't serve your life, why do you keep it?" I put this on a post-it and stuck it to my mirror to look at every day. This quote applies to objects as well as behaviors. I also purchased the audio of this book. Easy to listen to and reinforces the ideas in the book.

First of Peter Walsh's I've read, I will read more - Enjoyed the practical advice and encouraging wo

I read "Enough Already! Clearing Mental Clutter to Become the Best You" by Peter Walsh without knowing anything about him. I had not read his previous books, nor had I seen him on television. Now that I've read "Enough Already!" I'm going to read his previous books, and most likely any future books he writes. I enjoyed this book and found it full of useful information to help anyone eliminate clutter that blocks the path to who they want to become. The book is easy to read and contains encouragement along with specific tips and practical advice to acknowledge and address the emotional and mental clutter that holds people back from living the richly fulfilling life each and everyone deserves. The book consists of 271 pages divided into a short introduction and six chapters, each focusing on one area where mental clutter may be keeping you from your very best. Since Walsh's previous books focus on getting rid of clutter, it is not surprising that this book also recommends getting rid of things and in doing so you can get rid of some of the mental clutter than inevitably comes with hoarding too much. Walsh encourages you to look to yourself first, and describes what it takes to make changes in your life. With an encouraging "Let's get started!" he dives into the six focus areas of this text. These six areas include relationships, work, family, money, health, and our sense of well-being. Each chapter contains a short quiz to help you see where you are at in your life. I think the most important part of these quizzes is to help you recognize the issues and the different contrasts that could be present. It is obvious reading the quizzes that one set of answers is someone very well balanced and uncluttered where the other is someone at the opposite end of the spectrum and one set is in-between. The questions should get you thinking, and I believe that is what they are for. Walsh has you imagine how you would like each of the categories he writes about. This is another useful exercise. He encourages you to determine what you really want, but he also provides some important elements that I believe we all would want in our situations. For instance, in the Family chapter he discussed the importance of things such as love, joy, balance of fun and growth, trust and communication. In the Money chapter he discuses debt, living in the present, living within your means, vacations, and bills. I found a lot of his advice to be right on, and I often compared the way I do things with his suggestions. Overall, I really enjoyed reading "Enough Already!" It was an easy book to read with some very practical advice. It was uplifting and encouraged me to act on a few things right away. I would recommend it to anyone feeling stress over any of the six main topics he covers or about life in general. Take a moment to relax, read the book, and start implementing Walsh's suggestions into your own matters and find your mind free from mental clutter as you
