By Cooper and Majerus, this fine book (approximately 8" in height and 10" in length) has large and excellent color photos of about sixty mid-sized historical English houses. It is of special interest that most of these houses are not included in larger books on the same subject. The focus is on the visual architecture of the houses as viewed from an appropriate distance. Only the exteriors are photographed, including a number of closeups of exterior details. These external details are presented in several chapters according to type. The notes on each house are brief but informative. A very useful map of England shows where the houses are located. The book has an index that includes the houses, but lacks a list of the houses in the table of contents.
