A Solid Basic Guide to Grammar for Developing Writers

This is the best of several similar grammar guides for developing writers which I have had the great pleasure to read. I like the book for two reasons: First, the authors really explain sentence level grammar clearly. (Even I understood most of it, and the bulb burns not so brightly here.) Second, the book is fat with well-designed exercises and even comes with an answer key. If you are looking for a text for a developmental writing class or embarking on a self-paced study of the glory that is English, get this book.

Full of practice sets

How long has it been since you worried about parts of speech, sentence construction, and punctuation? If you are like most of us, the word "participle" strikes a note of fear in your belly. If you are teaching a class and looking for a grammar text with exercises in the same book, after the practice exercises are more exercises, which you can use as assignments in the class.This book works well as a self-help or classroom text.
