The one cookbook I have never lost, mislaid, or given away

Bought it new in 1985 and have loved it ever since. Bought copies for my siblings for Christmas the following year. I read cookbooks for inspiration in the kitchen and this book with copious notes, historical and literary references, chapter introductions, delights me every time I pick it up. This is not chic nouvelle cuisine, it is real food as prepared for 200 years by real families: heart warming and healing.
