I second everything the previous reviewer stated. a little more than a decade ago, this book was part of the curriculum for a cylinder head modification course I took under the tutelage of Bank's Turbochargers' lead man. the book is still serving me well as I strive to maintain my trusty MoPar smallblock. non-beginners can skip the opening with it's review of the basics of the pushrod motor, then the top end in closer detail. all but seasoned pros (who've probably already read this) however, will benefit from Barkhouse's explanations of theory, mechanical functions, diagnostics, troubleshooting, dis- and re-assembly, and modifications. this is a book that will be on my kid's shelves when they inherit my 'outdated' vehicles.
definitive & priceless

Altho dated, this book is filled with extremely valuable tchnical information that any gearhead doing his own work or designing his own engine cannot be without. The author was a career auto teacher at a California community college and had the benefit of a shop full of the best equipment that taxpayer money can buy. He is/was a mastermind of the cam & valve & head modification art. Certain elements of science never change over time.. even tho the hotrod set continues to rediscover the old knowledge & proclaim it as new. this is one of those timeless tomes. You might not have access to all that great equipment, but your engine builders do. If you can find a copy buy it & never let it go.
