This bind-up edition contains THE BOYS NEXT DOOR and its long-awaited sequel, ENDLESS SUMMER. In THE BOYS NEXT DOOR, Lori will do anything to get Sean, one of the three brothers next door, to notice her. Lori's plan? To date Sean's twin brother, Adam, and get him JEALOUS! Wakeboarding moves, mixed emotions, and a few bryozoa later, Lori discovers that she might be pining for the wrong person! (SPOILER ALERT! For those who have yet to read THE BOYS NEXT DOOR, do not read the following...) ENDLESS SUMMER continues where we last left Lori and Adam. Lori has finally figured out that Adam is the right one for her ever since she was a little kid, literally, and that he always had a crush on her. Happily together, their dating was bound to hit a rough patch, and that patch just happened to be Lori's dad. Although you can't blame him, as Lori and Adam accidentally fell asleep in Adam's truck. This incident not only caused Lori to miss her curfew but also gave her dad the chance to embed it in his mind that something else might have happened between the couple. Unfortunately, countless of pleas and explanations only lead to Lori's dad forbidding her to see Adam. However, staying away from each other is not as easy as it sounds, especially since they work together. If Adam doesn't stay away from Lori though, it's off to military school. With the right opportunity, Lori is given another chance to strike up a horrible plan - date guys way worse than Adam - so that her dad will see that Adam just isn't so bad. From bad boys to brothers, Lori is taking all the chances she can to get Adam back as her boyfriend, even if it ends up making Adam jealous. Will Lori's plan work, or will it just tear apart their relationship? Told in alternate narrations, ENDLESS SUMMER does not disappoint. Lori and Adam will join the ranks of the greatest couples in history (including Ross & Rachel). The love they have for one another is just so palpable that readers will cheer them on in hopes that they end up together once again. Jennifer Echols does a fantastic job writing through the minds of two teens (which is the scariest place to be). Lori continues to be that strong-willed character, with ideas that aren't the greatest, and Adam the loveable boy next door, who knew one day he would get the girl of his dreams. An Inferior Sequel to The Boys Next Door

Endless Summer by Jennifer Echols Simon Pulse, 2010 298 pages YA; contemporary; romance 4/5 stars Summary: Lori and Adam are together! Except on their first official date, they stay out all night incurring the wrath of her father and causing him to demand that the two stay apart. Lori hatches a plan whereby she will date guys with worse behavior than Adam so that her dad will relent. Adam can't believe that Lori is actually interested in him and wants to make sure she doesn't fall for some other guy. Thoughts: I loved The Boys Next Door (my favorite Simon Romantic Comedy with sawoony boys) and I've been enjoying some other Echols books. I was excited to read what happened for Lori and Adam next. First this picks up right after the first one ends. And it uses alternating perspective between Lori and Adam to tell the story which is useful in order to see Adam and more of his interactions with his family especially his mother and brother Sean. Second Lori's plan is stupid, Stupid, STUPID! And it results in tangled webs of actions and feelings that confused and annoyed me. Adam, while thinking that Lori is totally awesome, still believes that she harbors feelings for Sean; understandable given that she spent most of the first book thinking he's great. Lori meanwhile is somewhat insecure given that he had just dated some other girl and in fact dated a lot of girls prior to her; understandable as she is just now seeing herself as a valid romantic partner. Families: I understand that Lori's dad worried about his daughter but I found him most even-tempered in TBND and thus somewhat unbelievable in his extreme treatment of Lori and especially Adam. I was hoping to see more development in the relationship between Sean and Adam, who has always been picked on by Sean and I am pleased to announce that there is some more maturity there. Some funny bits especially how Lori and Adam imply the use of a certain swear word without actually using it. Overall: It was really choppy (possibly because of the split narration) and I did not love it as much as The Boys Next Door and it ALMOST makes me love TBND less. Cover: I'm not pleased that they've stopped using the cartoon covers because I adore them as I've outlined before but this cover is fine. Lori is blonde and I think Adam has dark hair (I have a tendency to ignore the descriptions of the male love interest in books and just think of them however I want.)

ENDLESS SUMMER is the perfect summer read!

This book contains 2 stories; The Boys Next Door and Endless Summer. It is the perfect summer read. Lori has just turned 16 and she wants to get away from her tomboy ways and be more girly. This proves to be a little difficult for her because she has spent her life hanging around the Vader boys next door and her brother. But she has her eyes on Sean and won't stop until he gives in and gives her a chance. She comes up with plans to try to make him interested in her but younger brother Adam may have a plan of his own. The first story, The Boys Next Door was very cute, funny, and full of teenage drama. Lori was adventurous in her plot to win Sean's heart and her interactions with Adam were heartwarming. The book is through Lori's point of view and it's easy to relate to a little of what she goes through with the boys, trying to figure out what they are thinking and why they do the things they do. I've always been a huge fan of how Jennifer describes her characters, uses humor, and describes various settings in her books. The part of the story, Endless Summer was a little less likable for me. The story alternates from Lori to Adam. I liked having the opportunity to see Adam's side of the story but I felt it could be a little more in depth. I never really got a good grasp of why Adam was so drawn to Lori besides the fact that they knew each other for so long. I wish it could have had a little more of the background story from Adam's point of view. Also, Lori seemed a little more clueless in this book. I didn't like her as well and most of the time her decisions drove me insane. Characters: Lori is cute, funny, and adventurous. I thought she made silly choices sometimes but it provided a lot of funny parts of the book. Adam is adorable and very easy to like. He has issues keeping his temper under control which leads him to get into trouble a lot. Overall I would definitely recommend this book. It's perfect for the summer but it is very long! It's a funny story of a teenager finding out more about herself, her feelings, and the mystery of boys! Cover- 5 stars! This is the perfect cover for this book. That is exactly how I would describe Lori and Adam.

This Book is Amazing!

Taken from my blog: Endless Summer, the recent release from Jennifer Echols, is a perfect summer treat. Packaged in this collection is a re-release of The Boys Next Door. Endless Summer is a continuation of that book, so it's a pleasure that they are together--with a beautiful cover! I'm not going to give away too much about the plot of the book--because it is just SO GREAT. I can't really put it into words how much I adored Lori and Adam as a couple. Lori is the kind of girl who is laid back and has always been one of the boys. She's spent so many summers with Adam and his older brother, Sean--she's never really thought of Adam as a boy to date. He was just Adam. So when they collide into love, it's spectacular. The couple has a kind of chemistry everyone searches for and the kind of passion that propels you to keep turning the pages to see where they end up. You root for their relationship when it struggles, and you sigh at the parts that make your heart flutter! If you're looking for a book to throw into your tote to take to the beach--this is perfect! It has the summer heat, the summer boys, and the summer love.

A must read for parents of dating teenagers.....especially if it's the next door neighbor!

When Adam's father asks him why he can't stay away from Lori and Adam simply states, "because it's Lori,....because she's beautiful......and because she's right there-right next door" -well let's just say "we feel your pain buddy" This sequel that Echols has continued -explains a little bit more of the tangled web of emotions these two teenagers suddenly bring to the surface. Neither Adam nor Lori deal very well with the restrictions both parents enforce after their "overnight calamity."--(but then again, very few teenagers do....and if you have one that does......well, maybe you better check their pulse.......eh?) Adam seems jealous, whiney, immature and less confident as the story progresses. *Remember-he has patiently waited for Lori to be more than his buddy for years. Now we see his "devil -may- care" attitude tested repeatedly by his family members as well as Lori. Echols allows him to develope, gradually opening up his vulnerable side, maturing him sweetly (***WARNING* the tree-house chapter will cause some OOOHHHs and AAHHHHs) and so torturing us till nearly the end to glimpse the adult he will become. As Adam evolves it seems at times Lori regresses-plotting and planning throughout just to steal moments alone with him-even knowing that getting caught could send Adam to Military School. I absolutely loved Boys Next Door-and I really enjoyed the continuation of Adam and Lori's story. While the plot line seems to drag on a bit in the sequel-we are still treated to the same wonderful emotionally charged teenage dialogue Echols is so famous for in all her books. I was immediately drawn into the comedy, conflict and teenage angst........and yes -honestly there were a few times I wanted to smack Lori (along with several others)-but that is what raising teenagers brings out in us parents.... I totally recommend the full package book-a lot to read but it's worth it. Looking forward to "Forget You"--thanks Jennifer!
