Having fulfilled the first part of the prophecy by becoming the StarMan, he now must reunite the three races inhabiting his world. Outstanding Sequel!

I had read The Wayfarer Redemption, and to be completely frank, I wasn't that impressed. With the first book, I felt the characters were falling into your typical, same old book clique... the strong but troubled hero, the milksop heroine, and a whole buch of comrades that just weren't impressive. I picked up Enchanter recently simply because I needed something to distract me through finals... and ended up spending an entire night up, reading!! I finished the book that night, and am now eagerly awaiting Starman!! The transformations the characters underwent between books one and two were stellar - no longer do we have a weak and boring Faraday, and Axis grows some emotions that have little to do with feeling sorry for himself! The struggles between the religious sects of the world - and eventual outcome of one - set in well with the intense rivallry between Bourneheld and Axis... and I enjoyed the portrayal of both characters as just trying to do what they felt was best, instead of classification as black and white, good or evil.If the rest of the books continue to surpass their predecessors the way Enchanter did Wayfarer, readers are in for an amazing conclusion!

Enchanter

Great continuation of the Wayfarer story. I couldn't put the book down. The emotion of the story is what captivates from the first paragraph. I've read Fantasy fiction for a number of years and I've never come across a story with the potential to span multiple volumes and keep the readers interest. Often times a set of events are pushed through a story by a phrophecy so complex and vague you began to wonder why it was mentioned to begin with. Not here, you can understand this prophecy and all that it implies. And often times you find yourself recalling what was phropheised while reading the book. The Magic, Swordplay, and Blood are described in such detail that you're actually able to see the events of the story in your minds-eye. If you are Fan Fic reader (Jordan,Hickman,Salvatore ....) Buy and enjoy this series. It's money well spent!!!

Captivating!!!

Enchanter was a book that I didn't put down for almost 2 days straight! The story was awsome and the characters continued to grow in amazing ways.A great thing about this book was that throughout the book Axis continues to grow and change. He discovers his enchanters powers and learns to use them. Later on he is torn between 2 different women who he loves and will have to chose. Its great how he can be seen as human and have faults and make mistakes just like everybody else.Another surprise was Azhure. She comes out of the background and into the action in this book when she first discovers her skills with a bow. Later on in the book she becomes an important commander in Axis's army. She is a well rounded character with many mysteries and surprises. This book was an amazing read and i would definetly recommend this book to readers of sara douglass. It would be best if you read her first book in the series, Battleaxe, before you read Enchanter so you can have a full understanding of what is happening. It will suffice as a stand alone book, but is 53453 times better after reading the first book. Good job Sara Douglass.Zim

A splendid tapestry of characters...

These books really deserve to be viewed as a series, that and the next three books. It's quite disappointing that those of you in the US have to wait for the books to be released one by one! The characters are complex, and yet believeable, and while BattleAxe seemed cliche at times, Enchanter is dazzling in comparison. There are many plot twists, and moments when your heart stops -- and moments when you thrill for the characters.Faraday is the only character that didn't quite hit it off with me, compared to Azhure, but she grows throughout the books.

A winner

When puissant Icariian enchanter Axis Sunsoar meets Faraday, wife of his half-brother Borneheld, he falls in love with her. He vows that she will become his wife one day soon. Faraday, a follower of the Mother Goddess, expects her beloved Axis to save her from her current abusive husband. However, raging jealousy for stealing the affection of his spouse, begrudging his sibling's recent success, and envying his half-brother's new relationship with their father leads Borneheld to seek Axis' death. Adding to the relationship mess is that for no apparent reason, Icariian desires the mysterious Azhure. With traitors inside his inner circle ready to destroy him, Axis must find a means to neutralize Borneheld and stop another half-brother if he is to fulfill the prophecy of ruling his fellow bird like people and the forest dwellers. The second novel in Sarah Douglass' Wayfarer Redemption series, ENCHANTER, is a deep relationship fantasy that is filled with action and adventure, but succeeds because the various populations that make up this globe seem real. Though the tale starts slow, especially for those who read book one, as Ms. Douglass patiently reintroduces the cast, once the story line gets into motion, it races faster than the speed of light. Subplot threads remain dangling for more sequels but fans will concur to this enchanting novel deserved to win the Australian Aurealis Award for Best Fantasy Novel.Harriet Klausner
