En Route

"En Route" should be required reading for those entering the field of emergency health care. Varying from the slightly slapstick (the defibrillated chihuahua story alone is worth the purchase price) to the outright comedic (if you are a paramedic, your boss will be deeply concerned when biohazard bags in your rig move of their own accord) to the tragic ("Grief Sponge" will have all but the most hardened teary-eyed) to the body-humor-esque (without body humor, it wouldn't be a medical memoir), Grayson takes his readers on a tour of what it is like to be a paramedic in rural Louisiana. A paramedic faces life, death, and everything in between, and Grayson invites you for a ride-along with "En Route." Strongly recommended for those in the emergency medical field, and also recommended for anyone who enjoys a good story.

Paramedic Students Required Reading

Should be required reading for all Paramedic students. Insight into the real world of EMS and why a sense of humor may be the only thing between you and insanity.

Excellent Stuff!!

"Kelly" Grayson writes an excellent expose of the life of a rural paramedic. It's a must read for EMS pros looking for some good stories with some pure Louisiana flavor. (Disclaimer- I can't really believe that he's that great at intubating or starting IV's; sounds like some embellishment. All medics stretch the truth and I'm sure he's no exception.). I recommend this novel.

kelly grayson rocks!

i've always been a fan of kelly grayson's blog, and this book is just the icing on the cake! it's nice to see the humorous side of a profession known for its stress and non-stop action. kelly gives us peak into the world of ems...the over-looked and underpaid heroes of our community who aren't in it for the glory, but for the passion to save and to serve. this is a book to share with friends and family who have lived that kind of life as well as those who have never seen the inside of an ambulance. it's plain ol' great reading...once you open it, you just can't put it down.

A real paramedic telling real stories.

Kelly Grayson "gets it." He manages to capture the range of emotions in EMS - from the silliness that pervades some shifts to the feelings of despair as a life is lost. Kelly's book succeeds where other EMS "memoirs" fail. Namely, he shows his experiences without sounding overly maudlin or frivolous. Kelly's tone as he recollects his years of experience show him to be the experienced, excellent paramedic he is, without the need to overanalyze himself as so many EMS "memoirs" do. I'm always amazed by Kelly's experiences. Even though I'm a friend of his, I have learned about him (and being a paramedic) by reading his book.
