Electrical Engineering: An Introduction

This comprehensive revision of a popular text helps non-electrical engineering majors--the future users, rather than the designers of electrical devices, systems, and machines--gain a conceptual understanding of electrical engineering. Early coverage of systems and an emphasis on an IC (integrated circuits) "building block" approach motivates non-majors. The text features integration of analog and digital technology with cutting-edge coverage of op-amps,...

Well writen and comprehensive

There is a lot to like about this book. It provides excruciatingly detailed coverage of basic engineering theories, written in a clear, intelligent way. The author does an effective job of tempering the extensively technical content with a friendly writing style that is never flip or insulting to the reader. I also appreciate the abundance of examples, illustrations, and diagrams, which support the text well and are easy to read. Pertinent code samples are shaded in gray, which enhances readability. Diagrams are clear and and are supported with well-written callouts. Each chapter concludes with a summary of its content and several practice exercises. Although such practice is certainly valuable, I would have liked to see an additional appendix with "answers" to the exercises so that readers could check their work and benefit from the author's expertise. Without such author feedback, the exercises are less effective as learning tools. Overall, I see this book as a potentially valuable textbook. I recommend it with some caution to everyone -- although with patience, determination, and a commitment to learn, they, too, may find the book very beneficial.

Excellent introductory text.

This is a very nice introduction to Electrical Engineering, which includes such topics as semiconductor devices, electromechanic machines or circuit theory. Before reading this book you should be familiar with calculus and complex numbers. The authors have concentrated on the most interesting topics and have developed them in a direct, revealing way, providing motivation before introducing each new concept. The chapters on steady state response and complex numbers are great. A light, well written book.
