Back in the 1980's I observed a long-term, stressful interaction between two managers. I would give my smart Mensa-member girlfriend a daily blow-by-blow description of this interaction, she in turn would describe in psychological terms what was going on. About a year later, Wortman's book was published and his book validated my girlfriend's analysis. This book is also of value to those interested in the subject matter of workplace violence; understanding personalities will aid in detecting potential problems. With the information contained in this book, you'll be looking at the communication's style of an individual and examining their negative or positive interaction with other people. This is one of the best books I've ever read that provides an understanding of the interaction personalities of technical people. If you are a manager: read it!
How to get the most out of the Geeks in the lab
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 23 years ago
This book was written long before the internet; long before it was cool to be a geek; back when engineers and scientists really did wear pocket protectors. And, even though technologies have changed, the personality types outlined in this book still exist. Engineers and Scientists are hard to manage. This book gives over a dozen examples of work styles and management techniques that are more relevant than ever in today's labs, engineering departments, programming teams, and IT centers. It is a shame that this excellent book on managerial psychology and technique is no longer in print.
