Zachary Grayson, a middle-aged, gay writer, seems passionless, until a life-changing odysey to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, reveals a surprising answer to an innocent question.
ECLIPSE OF THE HEART by Ronald Tierney is an engrossing and fascinating look at espionage and those on the periphery of it. Zachary, the protagonist of the novel, is a middle-aged epicure who literally stumbles into a world of intrigue, murder, betrayal and lust. The reader of this fascinating story is taken on a literary ride worthy of Ian Fleming and James Bonds, sans the high-tech gadgetry. The novel is fast paced, full of adventure, and is an altogether great read. The fact that Zachary is a repressed gay man who through the course of the story emerges from his cocoon and finds a meaningful life beyond writing cookbooks is rewarding in itself. There are a few unanswered questions that the reader is left with at the end of the book. While this was a bit of a disappointment to this reader, the hint of another episode in the life of Zachary Grayson quells my concern for the loose ends. I stumbled upon this book by chance, but I'm very glad I did. It was entertaining, and I highly recommend it to anyone who might enjoy an entertaining read about a hapless sleuth.
