Richard McAdoo and his wife circled America in a motor home, travelling out of season so that the places they visited would have an everyday face. Journeying without pressure of time or obligation, they explored the country in a series of six tours, returning home to New England between each trip to rest and reflect on the state of the union. They met Amish and Indians, encountered old friends and made new ones, lingered when they felt like it and moved on when they didn't.
