A good book

I thought this was a very good book. I was able to incorporate many of the ideas quickly and with relative ease. It did help me to get more healthy without undue pain...

What a simple concept!

After hearing David Meinz on Focus on the Family, I just had to find a copy of this book. Every minute of the extensive search was well worth it. This author simply makes sense. He has taken basic teaching from the Bible, placed it in our daily life setting, and spoke the truth! His advice is supported by the best Evidence of all - the Word of God. It is well worth looking for and reading.

Sound Advice For The Mature

I have recently read several books by three different Christian doctors/nutritionists on the subject of healthy eating. This was easily the best. However, this is for the mature person. If you want the quick fix promises go elsewhere. Then remember that the evidence is that over 95% of the people who take the quick fix will fail over time and will put the weight back on. This is about using sound principles to change your lifestyle in a manageable way. It requires some self-discipline. Not up to self-discipline yet? What does Galatians 5:22-23 tell us? How about Philippians 4:13? One of the main changes is to limit our intake of fat to a particular target (not a starvation target either). The author shows several biblical passages where God forbade the Jews to eat the fat on their meat, and explains the medical benefits of obeying God. This, and the other eating principles described, have been supported by countless studies. The author also encourages us to use only meat, fish, and poultry that is in accordance with the rules God gave to Moses. This is medically sound. I found this book to be well-reasoned, rational, sound, and spiritually uplifting. I enjoyed it so much I read the whole book in one evening. I would have given it 5 stars except for two things: 1) the author could have done more to educate us on the proper food choices and on the details of the food pyramid. 2) The author tries hard to convince himself that the scriptures tell Christians to abstain from eating pigs, but ends up concluding there are no spiritual reasons to do so. He would have been better to go straight to Romans 14:14 "no food is unclean", and then to 1 Corinthians 10:23 "Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial". This book is about what is beneficial.

This book is a very good book for light-weight, low fat recipes. I recommend very highly.

Finally...a book that gives you HONEST answers!

Tired of trying to figure out which diet guru to follow and ultimately trying them all only to fail again and again? Look no further. David Meinz's Eating by the Book has the true answers. For the first time, someone has finally explained to me (in terms I can understand), the destructive effects of fat, why it should be limited in ones diet, and ways to do that. Coupled with Biblical back-up it's hard to find any reason NOT to become leaner, healthier and happier. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is tired of fighting with their weight and at the end of their rope. David offers you something to hang onto. And while you are, he makes sure you realize that you can win the battle by the best method available...God's Holy Word. If you're looking for another stringent gimmicky guaranteed to lose weight fast pipe dream, you won't find it here. But if you're looking for a realistic approach to improving your life, while learning information that everyone should know, here it is!
