This books cuts across the diet "waist-land" and gets to the meat of the problem...calories. All the low-carb, low-fat, low Glycemic index...fat hormones or Zone diets won't get you where you need to get unless you cut the calories, too. Yes, you restrict caloric intake on this program, but having said this, Eat Up Slim Down does NOT advocate eating less. You will probally find yourself eating more than you ever have...just more of the foods that actually nourish you...foods that fill you up and satisfy your cravings...enough food to keep you from getting hungry! Hunger is one of the strongest drives in the world. If you're hungry, you will end up eating anything and everything you can get your hands on until that hunger is satisfied. That's why diets that rely on food restiction never work in the long-term...because you've got to eat...period. To make things even easier, there are no forbidden foods with this program. just better ways of preparing the same foods you already love. This book is not only full of useful information, but over 200 recipes that show you how to create your favorite meals, keeping the flavor but reducing the calories. Eat Up Slim Down is also filled with the inspiring stories and success strategies of people who have used this way of eating to lose weight. I personally loved the chicken recipes and the dessert recipes, especially the Chocolate Raspberry Avalanche Cake. Now, just a word to the wise here. When it comes to purchasing this book, you may want to go directly to the website for Rodale Books and purchase it. The last time I looked, you could get this book new from the publishers for $29.96 plus shipping and handling. Some of the sellers here are charging $40-50 dollars plus shipping for the same book! Another suggestion is to purchase a copy of Prevention Magazine at the bookstore, or news stand. Quite often, Prevention includes "cards" that can be mailed in for the purchase of one the many health related books published by Rodale Press. Generally, a purchase this way allows you to buy the book in 3-4 installments and includes a free gift of some kind. At any rate, this book is well worth the purchase, just shop around first. It's worth the effort, just not worth $40-$50!!!

This book has a lot of delicious lo-cal recipes that I am trying one-by-one. It has a LOT of chicken recipes and only a few for beef and pork, so if you aren't a real "poultry person" you probably won't be as happy with it as I am. There are also recipes for almost everything from salads to delicious deserts. The first 51 pages of this 358 page book are very helpful and informative with regard to tips, tricks and facts that may not be well known. I recommend this book to anyone who may be trying to slim down or to help a loved one slim down (without the loved one knowing it; he/she won't be able to tell). Happy Eating!!
