This is the food plan that changed my life.

This is the food plan that changed my life, July 6, 2009 By Kathy "Kathy" (Alexandria, VA) - See all my reviews I strongly suggest you first read "Eat to Live" by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. THEN read this little gem. About two months before I turned 50 I was on five metformin a day. The next step was insulin. I told myself I was NOT going to turn 50 and be on diabetes medicine. This is the first food plan that has actually been fun and enjoyable. I don't feel deprived. I don't spend hours planning my menu. I've done Weight Watchers---which is a fantastic fit for some folks, but it gave me TOO many unhealthy options---NutriSystem, Atkins, South Beach, cabbage soup diet, you name it! Felt hungry off and on on most of these "diets." I am NOT hungry on Dr. Fuhrman's food plan. My husband says my entire attitude has changed. I've made MY food plan even STRICTER than Dr. Fuhrman suggests. I am a gluten-free vegan. No sugar. No dairy. No meat. No gluten. One thing that made the no dairy switch super easy was learning about "Almond Breeze Unsweetened Vanilla" liquid. It's only 40 calories a cup. It doesn't leave an enzymy-taste in the back of my throat like soy milk does. I use it in my coffee and in smoothies. Dr. Fuhrman's food plan makes sense to me. But you have to read "Eat to Live!" Once you have the knowledge you will find it very difficult to keep living an unhealthy lifestyle. Then read this little book! "Eat Righ America" gives you the nuts and bolts of what foods you can have an unlimited supply of, what foods you should have in moderation, and which foods to have rarely. I don't measure anything. I eat SO MUCH FOOD I can't believe I continue to lose weight. (I'm even 'cheating' once a week when my husband takes me out for lobster or seafood!) I am OFF all diabetes medicine. My allergies are almost nonexistent. I've lost 18 lbs and have about 35 more to go. I am humbled and grateful for my new way of eating. It just feels too good to be true. You owe it to yourself and loved ones to at least educate yourself and read "Eat to Live." I know this probably sounds like a paid advertisement, but I am the real deal. I will not go back.
Everyone should read this! Great book!

This and Dr. Fuhrman's other books should be mandatory reading for everyone! The information in them is so important, yet it seems that no one in America knows about it. So many people are just oblivious about nutrition - even so called "nutritionists" don't seem to know how to truly eat a healthy diet. This book is a great small book with the basic information of the Eat For Health way of eating. It's a great companion to the other books, or it's perfect on it's own for people who don't want to read the entire Eat For Health book(s).
A handy little food scoring guide that will help you eat healthier

I bought this book because I've enjoyed Dr. Joel Fuhrman's other books and because this was a great guide to go along with his 2 book set Eat For Health: Lose Weight, Keep It Off, Look Younger, Live Longer (2 book set) which was great. This book contains 38 pages of food listing with their nutrient values, arranged by the type of food, like beans/legumes, beverages, bread/grain products, cereals, etc. He shows the calories, sodium content and ANDI scores. ANDI stands for Aggregate nutrient density index. A thorough explanation of this is included in his Eat for Health books. The book also contains 16 pages of high nutrient recipes, his top 30 superfoods according to their nutrient density scores and other chapters dedicated to explaining why we should eat this way. Dr. Fuhrman's advice is the best I've found for healthy eating and for weight loss. His emphasis is on nutrition, but you can't help losing weight if you need to lose and follow his advice on improving your diet. I highly recommend this book.

This little book has the potential to permanently change our eating habits. A must read if you are in need of losing weight or gaining health. Most helpful along with Dr. Fuhrman's other books on health.
