books are not the way to learn French

I was trying to get a book with all the verb conjugations in one place and A. This book really doesn't (tho it does conjugate a LOT of them) and B. Even that isn't the way to learn french. This type book is why so many people who take French in high school end up quitting. The section on pronunciation is minuscule and pronunciation is the hardest part!! Don't learn to READ in French - learn to SPEAK it. Then if you really want to get fluent etc a book of some type will be helpful. Maybe this would be ok at that level. But the price is certainly right. I find it much better to learn with audio or really fun explanatory websites. The best is probably Frenchtoday.com. Jefrench.com and frenchpod101 (all free - tho of course trying to get you to go to the paid versions but still lots of free stuff). I'm finding those much more helpful for pronunciation, etc. - but the conjugations aren't really in a place you can look them up. Jefrench and frenchpod both have audio and frenchpod101 has slow then faster versions which are imperative. I will also warn you that French textbooks teach a much more formalized French - French people DO NOT SPEAK that way. The Frenchtoday lady has a very good blog page on the pronunciations of modern French and why students of French are so freaked out when they try to talk to a French person. Bonne Chance!!!
