Great Beginning

I stumbled onto Flap Tucker by way of Fever Devlin and got a great surprise. Phillip Depoy keeps you reading from the first word to the last with tight dialogue, a trip through world religions and a very clever plot. There are plenty of laughs to make EASY an easy read and a very enjoyable one. Will have to locate the others in the series for a cozy winter snuggle with some fun books. Look for Flap in Atlanta, his home ground and the modern scene, where they're so busy tearing down for something new the cabby's have a hard time finding an address. Nash Black, author of TRAVELERS and SINS OF THE FATHERS.

A Rare Treat

This book and author surprised me. Depoy has a real gift for writing dialogue and character development. Fun to read. I laughed out loud. I highly recommend this one to anyone who enjoys a good story. I will look for Depoy's name from now on.

Easy Does It

Philip Depoy is the thinking man's mystery writer. I hesitate to say "private eye" writer, because Flap Tucker insists that he is not a detective, merely a "finder of lost things", and it's something he does very well. In other mysteries, coincidences are the bane of the reader and the deus ex machina of the writer. It's often too hard to believe that such disparate events have a common root. In this novel, Depoy hands it all over with a wink & a nudge and makes it all believable. Flap is looking for the wife of one of Atlanta's nouveau riche. Only problem? The guy is possibly slow and probably imagining her. He's also asked to uncover the truth behind the "devil man" or demon who is terrorizing the proprietor of a local Asian restaurant. Are they related? Sure! How? Read the book. Depoy's Atlanta is an almost fairy-tale place, where angels and demons walk with equal impunity. I know from experience that it sounds better here than it really is.

Unoque and efreshing hero in this delightful debut

Flap Tucker, Atlanta's only meditative detective has not worked in about eighteen months, ever since he learned that his adoring spouse married him to evade the authorities from pinning a murder rap on her. He snaps out of his state of ennui when his best friend Dalliance Oglethorpe, owner of the famous night club EASY, finds him a case that is right up his alley. A drag queen has been murdered, fighting to get into a pentagram, making it appear like a lover's quarrel. At about the same time, two topless dancers have been strangled to death. Neither one of these cases are the one that Dally thinks Flap should concentrate on because she intuits that the next paying case is locating Loonie Leonard's missing wife Augusta. She believes thatthe other cases are somehow linked to Augusta's disappearance. To further increase his back breaking workload, Flap agrees to help a friend out of being scared into selling his sacred Himalayan treasures. Gradually, Flap realizes that all his cases are intertwined and he needs to find the connecting thread. Flap is a methodical person, who slowly seeks and finds clues in the strangest places. Flap's personal pace keeps the novel running at 15 MPH in a 65 zone, but that is part of why readers will be easily charmed by Philip DePoy's novel. The support cast bring to the inner city and suburbia an astonishing feel of reality, making this debut mystery, a must read for fans of a down home mystery. Harriet Klausner
