My mother gave this cookbook to me in 1989 when I moved out. I have collected many cookbooks over the years but this is the one I always refer back to. I recently moved to a new location after being in the same home for 30+ years and only took two...Sunset Easy Basics for Cooking was one of them.
This cookbook taught me many things about cooking and more and now it is quite tattered with the cover being torn off but I still have it. I wish it was still in print, but for now I'll settle for a used one...maybe!
I wish I could give 6 stars

I love this book. I bought it in 1983 when I was sure the stove would explode and all ingredients would turn into dust in my hands -- and it taught me to not only cook, but to love cooking. It explains everything, and everything I've ever cooked from it tasted great. PUT IT BACK IN PRINT!! (seeing as mine's had a few things spilled on it over the years . . . )
The ONE I would keep

....if I had to pare down my huge collection to only one cookbook. I bought this in 1983 and it is the most useful reference I have. I still use it at least once a week, and I even sent it to my son in Greece while he was a student for 6 months in Athens. Strictly on loan! Now that I have found a source for used copies of this out-of-print title I will order a couple for two of our adult kids. It's the cook's equivalent of the best Singer sewing books!
Blasphemy! Out of print!

One of the best cookbooks I own (and I own a lot). Sections start with the absolute basics and work you through the more extreme. Egg section, with recipes from "soft boiled egg" to "eggs benedict," is indicative of its thoroughness. Many, many color illustrations, just as a cookbook should have. Hopefully, it's available in spiral bound like the one my mom gave me. Great wedding or "moving out of the parent's house" gift. If this review has any sway at all with the publisher, PLEASE PUT IT BACK IN PRINT! I'll buy many copies! Great gift!
I cannot believe this book is out of print!

I have dozens of cookbooks and still think this is one of the very best. I bought it for my kids, wedding showers, etc. for years and everyone loved it. It is worth paying the extra $$$ to find one in a used book store, in my opinion.
