One in a series of computer guides, this edition shows readers how to operate the most commonly used features and functions of version 6 of Adobe Photoshop. It includes added coverage of ImageReady,... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I have at least ten books on Adobe Photoshop and eight of them (including the ones supplied by Adobe) are unintelligible. "Photoshop 4 Complete" by Kate Binder and others was the only book that I could understand. So I was happy when Kate Binder recently came out with "Easy Adobe Photoshop 6." (Actually I was not so happy because I was thinking about writing a simplified pictorial book on Photoshop and this pre-empted me totally.) This book is well worth the investment to anyone who wants to learn Photoshop, particularly for editing and retouching digital photos. It is completely pictorial with very extensive clear pictures that show you diagrammatically what to do and what to expect to see on the monitor when you do it. I learned a great deal from reading this book and it is also a valuable reference. I highly recommend it to others. The only criticism I could make is that it is weak on matters pertaining to file size, file formats and JPEG options vs. JPEG quality. Donald Rapp
A great quick reference

The trouble with Photoshop is its just too complete for recreational uses to remember even most of its capabilities. It is therefore an overkill for all but daily, probably commercial users. This book is the perfect solution. Open a favorite image file, and flip through the book until you find something that looks interesting and fun. Do what it says..click click click Shazaam! Hey look at this honey! Now I actually use some of the vast power of this amazing software. Most of it works with PS 5 or even 5LE as well so if you have those but are thinking of upgrading, this is a good way to learn the improvements in PS6. Opps - can't do that with 5 - humm nice enhancement. This is not however a good tutorial for learning photoshop from scratch. It doesn't give any explanation of why something works nor does it connect one process to another. You need at least a basic understanding to get started. Any of really abbreviated books will work for that, my dog eared copy of Photoshop for Idiots was enough for me. This book is great for digital darkroom hobbiests as it opens a nearly endless set of ways to amaze yourself on how creative you can be. And I haven't melted my hard drive with it...yet.
