This book is wonderful! Adrienne Leiberman presents the information about natural childbirth in a realistic and down to earth manner. The book gives great detailed information about the entire process of birth in a factual manner without becomming too clinical. She gives easy to learn exercises in visualization and relaxation to manage and even lessen the pain of childbirth. Although it is evedent that she prefers a natural childbirth to one that uses medications for pain releif, she provides plenty of information about pain medications that may be available at the time of delivery. This book helped me gain the confidence I needed to give birth naturally by informing me about what was happening to my body throughout the process, why it is painful, and how to properly manage that pain and discomfort. Buy this book!

Very Informative, Unique Book

This book covers pain relief options available to expectant mothers - and just that. No goofy personal, religious, or spiritual beliefs to be pushed on anyone - just interesting, factual information written in a friendly manner.

Excellent info tool for any Mom-to-be

Whether you're fretting over your first time giving birth, or (like me) you're currently housing your 3rd baby, "Easing Labor Pain" is a must-have. Some women have contractions that they classify as "uncomfortable, but not unbearable", while others say it was the worst experience of their life. Good ol' Mother Nature always keeps us on our toes by offering no set pattern to tell one way or the other what degree of pain we'll suffer during labor. Instead of offering one particular method to use, "Easing Labor Pain" explains every option available; Lamaze or Bradley method? Epidural? What about "water birth"? Should I have induced labor? What drug-free options are there to relieve pain? Any question you can think of is covered in this 247-page gem, as well as the pros and cons of any particular procedure or method, allowing you to consider all options before heading into the delivery room. I'm a 3rd time birthing veteran (1 c-section, 1 VBAC), and yet I'm still thrilled to find a book that gives me info and ideas to consider regarding this subject.

*So* glad I got this book!

I think I'm a typical mom-to-be -- I know that pain relief medications have some risks, and I'd like to try to avoid them if alternative pain relief works, but I'm not determined to avoid medications at all costs, either.I found this book extremely helpful because it gave a lot of great, practical suggestions for non-drug relief -- relaxation exercises, TENS units, etc. -- but also presented information about the drug options. I felt like I was getting a lot of facts without a lot of ideology/propaganda, and this is a loaded enough issue that I consider that like a breath of fresh air.

A great resource!

In a non-judgemental manner, this book covers ALL of the options for pain relief during labor and birth. It has accurate information, personal comments on subjects such as: epidural anesthesia, positioning, TENS, accupressure, support and much, much more! A must read for every expectant couple!
