Excellent, heartwarming book. Highly recommend!

A wonderfully written account of Dr. Hablitzel's "lessons" learned through life experiences with colleagues and patients. What a generous act for him to share his journey with us. I am honored to be able to call this man, Doctor.

Wonderful book! Must read!

So much to learn from this book by a warm and caring physician. The wisdom imparted it amazing. Read it. Share it. Live it.

Uplifting and entertaining. A really great read!

It was truly wonderful to read something so inspirational without being left feeling inadequate or depressed. So many books of this genre rely on a maudlin approach to make one consider how much worse their life could be. This book made me think how good my life is, yet how much better I could make it for myself and anyone I touch. I felt his treatment of his subjects was warm and caring without ever slipping into condescension. This book will make you feel connected to everyone around you and you will find yourself smiling at strangers just for the good feeling it gives you.

"Learning to Live in the Here and Now..What a Gift"

Do you need to feel inspired? Could you use a good cleansing cry? Would you like to go on an inspiring journey? Well then have I got just the book for you. It is called, Dying Was the Best Thing that Ever Happened to Me, and it was written by former Perrysburg, Ohio resident, William Hablitzel, M.D. Dr. Hablitzel takes you on an amazing journey that changes a medical doctor into a caring spiritual healer. Through 13 chapters he describes various medical patients he has treated. You learn of their medical journey that comes with having a serious illness. Along the way Bill chronicles his journey to humanity while becoming the doctor most of us just dreaming of caring for us. And care he does, going above and beyond with his patients, office staff and young doctors he helps to train. As the good doctor encounters debilitating diseases, incredible endurance, and the indomitable human spirit he has a look at life, up close and personal, few of us ever see. These stories touch your heart but they give you pause to look at your own life and pathway. Bill Hablitzel is a sensitive, empathetic, insightful, quiet, introspective man who makes medicine an even more honored profession. He really gets it and conveys to the reader how important it is to understand what we have in the "here and now" is what is really important. By appreciating what we have instead of always wishing for something else bigger and better we forget to live. If you take nothing else from this book just realizing to live before it is too late is the greatest gift anyone can be given.

A realistic account of inspiring stories of the lives of one compasionate physician's patients

I found this book truly inspiring. This author has such an eloquent way of writing about the lives of his patients and their journey. It is one that you can not put down, as each chapter reveals a different story that many people can relate to. You can't wait to read about the next character and their story. As a nurse I have witnessed many patients discover hope, love, faith and happiness through their illness. Having a caring physican guide their journey and help them deal with their illness without judgement is rare to see in medicine today, but inspiring to know that it still exists. This author conveys how important it is to live "in the moment" for today instead of the past or hoping for the future as he has seen throughout his career. He also invites you into his personal life and his journey of becoming the physician he is today, one that many of us could only wish we could find. They do exist and I have just read a wonderful book by one. I will be buying many of these books as gifts for my loved ones, what better way to show them how to find happiness for today.
