DVD Demystified

This is an excellent book that caters for a wide range of knowledge bases and explains some of the technical issues very clearly. It also gives some very useful background about the development of VHS and DVD, and this also helps to understand the rationale behind the various standards. Quite technical in places, but certainly answers most questions concerning anything to do with music and video media. Very useful for anyone working in entertainment to know some of this. A good book, I recommend it.

Works for me!

Taylor's been the man for DVD sooo many years now and this latest revision is the first I've purchased. The depth of detail and fullness of the technical specification information is fantastic and what one would hope from a classic-staying-fresh. I was only after a relatively narrow batch of information, and this certainly worked for me on that. Beyond that, it certainly tempts me to learn more about DVD authoring and what the formats are capable of (inc. Blu-Ray/HD DVD). From a money point of view, "DVD Demystified" has always been a good value and still is.

Read this book if you want to know about DVD!

There are lots of books that purport to be a full and complete reference about something, but Jim delivers the goods about DVD in this edition. An invaluable reference book for anyone seeking in-depth knowledge about this very technical subject, it does not seek to be a Schwann Guide for DVD titles, nor a review of DVD players. Instead, this book covers the whys and wherefores of DVD - how the format began, its roots, its basics, chapter after chapter of notes on its capabilities, its possibilities, and most importantly, its future!Taken in conjunction with the included DVD disc (which demonstrates practically EVERY feature possible with DVD), and the DVD FAQ website ... (which further demonstrates the Web-DVD capabilities of the disc, and provides a forum for continuing updates on DVD Technology in between editions)), these materials constitute a VERY thorough, and more importantly, VERY ACCURATE review of a very technical optical disc format. If you are a DVD professional, or want to be one, this book should be on your bookshelf.

A comprehensive book for the videophile or professional

An excellent book for the audio/videophile or professional. Every detail appears to be covered. An excellent value even at twice the price.

A fantastic look at DVD from both tech & consumer side.

Jim Taylor does a great job of describing not only the history of the DVD format, but the technical details as well. Anyone ever slightly interested in this great format should get this book. It's a DVD bible and it even comes with an actual DVD Disc! The disc contains Dolby Digital and THX trailers, as well as test patterns and DVD movie previews.
