Dropped Dead Stitch

A Knitting Mystery Paperback Release June 1, 2010 This is the seventh book in Sefton's Knitting Mystery Series. In this one Kelly Flynn, CPA and amateur sleuth learns that one of close friends, Jennifer, has been raped and refuses to report it to the police. Kelly encourages Jennifer to attend a workshop for other women who have also suffered sexual violence. Kelly will be there teaching a fiber art classes with physical therapist Lisa Gerrard, taking place between the heavy counseling sessions. The retreat is being held at the Lazy C Ranch and Jennifer agrees that a change of scenery may be a good idea so she decides to attend. Everything is going along fine until the ladies are introduced to the owner of the ranch, Cal Everett. Jennifer has a breakdown and tells her friends that that Everett was the man who raped her. When Everett is found dead below the steep deck of the meeting building and Jennifer's afghan project is draped over his body she becomes the prime suspect in his murder. Never fear, Kelly Flynn and her friends are on the case and they will knit the clues together to find the real murderer. I LIKED IT!! This could have been a real heavy topic for a cozy mystery but Sefton handles it by spinning in some happier moments like a wedding, and the wonderful descriptions of the beautiful yarn at the Lambspun Shop. The patterns and recipes are the icing on the cake or the fringe on a beautiful scarf. This is a sensationally written series with a grand cast of characters set in the beautiful state of Colorado. You don't have to be a knitter or even crafty to enjoy these mysteries, just a fan of a great who-dun-it. Skein of the Crime (A Knitting Mystery)Maggie also has her new book Skein of the Crime coming out in hardcover on June 1, 2010. I hope to be able to review that for you soon. I have met the author and we sat and knitted together

Dropped Dead Stitch kept me guessing until the very end. I was shocked but pleased; Her last book disappointed me. I figured out who the killer was by the third chapter. I hate being able to such a thing. Maggie Sefton is cool writer. I just wish she would add some minorities in her stories.

engaging amateur sleuth

Kelly Flynn left a big DC based CPA corporation to move to Fort Connor, Colorado where the pace is slower. She lives with her boyfriend Steve and visits House of Lambspun where she has made good friends with knitters and crocheters. When one of her knitting pals Jennifer Stowe calls her at two twenty in the morning begging her to come over because she was attacked, Kelly wastes no time to get over there. Jennifer was at a bar talking to a fellow customer when she leaves to go home. The customer rings her bell and informs her she left something behind. She opens her door only he pushes her back in, beats her up and rapes her. She receives professional help. She and the knitters go to a retreat run by her psychologist for assault victims. However, the ranch owner is Jennifer's rapist. Soon after their arrival, Jennifer's attacker is found dead, a homicide victim. Lacking an alibi and having a motive, Jennifer is the prime suspect; Kelly plans to prove otherwise. Kelly is a one person dynamo and when she sets her mind to something like knitting or sleuthing, nothing can prevent her from achieving her objective. She interrogates people whom she believes know something useful and has a tendency to come close to being killed. Yet she also is a friend who keeps Jennifer's moral up. Her inquiry is terrific because she feels for the culprit whoever that is as they are probably a victim of the ranch owner too. Maggie Sefton provides an engaging amateur sleuth starring a warm caring person struggling along with readers to figure out who the killer is. Harriet Klausner
