DREAMWEAVER FIELDS FOREVER!!

Are you new to Dreamweaver 8? If you are, then this book is for you! Author Marc Campbell, has done an outstanding job of writing a book for people who are new to creating their own web sites from the ground up and all that it entails. Campbell, begins by showing you how to devise your plan. Then, the author shows you how to develop a blueprint for your site. Next, he shows you how to add just about anything to the pages of your site. Finally, the author shows you how to take the working prototype that exists on your computer and publish it to the Web for all of the world to see. This most excellent book serves an introduction to creating web sites using Macromedia Dreamweaver 8. More importantly, the focus throughout this book is that sound design and usability are inextricably linked.

Great for the money.

This book takes you from web-site zero through building a basic client-side only web site using Dreamweaver 8. My only critique is that it seemed like we didn't even get to actually using Dreamweaver 8 until about page 100. Before that was an intro to general web-site concepts and HTML. Anyway, it's an attractive and informative book that is priced lower than most.

Excellent Resource

As someone who is new to Dreamweaver and web design, I have gone through several books. This book is an excellent resource that conveys not only the "hows" of Dreamweaver, but the "whys" of building well-designed web sites. I find myself referring to it again and again as Campbell's opinions on design topics are pretty much right on. True, you won't learn how to use every single feature of the program in this book. But there are many other books that you can teach you how to use Dreamweaver. This book is, in my opinion, more utilitarian and approachable than the other pure method books.

Excellent beginner guide to web design using Dreamweaver 8

I have went through many Dreamweaver books and ended up more frustrated after reading them. They jump right into the details of all the features of the software and xhtml, css, etc. I end up trying to memorize all the features and trying to determine if I need them for what I'm trying to accomplish. This book starts from an idea->design->implementation->publish perspective. The author goes through the philosophy behind each step, then shows the features in Dreamweaver that will facilitate it. This book goes through the features of Dreamweaver that will facilitate the process flow. I need to know what I need to do and can then pick up another book for how to do it. There are details in the book that shows the steps to getting the important design process done. This book will save a lot of time for those that has an idea of what they want for their next web site but get bogged down on the technnical details of the software and other books. <br /> <br />p.s. The section on layers is clearly written. You'll be creating css compliant layout using Dreamweaver in no time.

Interesting hybrid of design and tutorial

This is a very interesting book that blends books on HTML design and information architecture with Dreamweaver tutorial books. And the result, works pretty well. Certainly there could be more on Dreamweaver functions, and the material on site design could go into more depth. But overall, I think it works. And I think it would be an ideal book for anyone getting started with Dreamweaver and web work. It's doesn't get lost in the Dreamweaver details, and it's not so architectural that implementation is completely lost.
