Dreamseller

When I got the book in, I just expected a new book to read. To my surprise it was autographed! Not only was it autographed but there was an autographed photo of Novak and Bam inside!

Loved it

I enjoyed this book a lot. It follows the live of ex proskater Brandon Novak and his life as a junkie. Novak's story isn't a regular junkies life story. Novak had a very promising life before herion then he managed to throw it all away. He tells some crazy throughout this novel, my personal favorite is one he tells toward the end about an insident with bleach. It is amazing the way he lived during his worst years. Novak has a very realistic approach to his life. I love the end of the novel because it wasn't some cliche "life is perfect, I overcame all my obstacles" ending. Novak can be seen in cameo roles in Bam Margera's "Viva La Bam", "Haggard", and a CKY video. He is also a regular on Bam's Radio Show.

AMAZING BOOK! I'm not a big reader, but I simply couldn't put this book down. It was shockingly honest and very well done! I think every young person should read Dreamseller. It's not a "Just Say No!" cheeseball story, it will actually make you think twice about what drugs can do to you, no matter who you are or what you have. I recommend this book to anyone. Dreamseller sounded good, so I ordered it, but I didn't even know who Novak was and I don't know a thing about skateboarding, however Novak's story is one that many can relate to, it's realistic, and it really makes you think. A MUST READ!

Brutally honest

I was in search of some good books to read for a recent trip involving long flights, and when I saw this I was tempted and picked this up, even though I was slightly sceptical, I mean, yet another "addiction memoir"? Let me also add that I had never heard of Brendan Novak before. "Dreamseller: An Addiction Memoir" (266 pages) turns out to be a far more terrific read than I had expected. Rather than bringing a biography of his life and how Brendan Novak became a skateboarding star, the book starts off with "The Last Day of Using", and never lets up from there. In fact, Novak doesn't address his early years until about midway to the book. The first half of the book, detailing just a couple of days from the last day of using and then entering rehab, is by far the best part of the book for me. Novak brings those moments and days with incredible detail, heartache, and brutal honesty. How could it all have gone so wrong? The latter part of the book brings flashbacks of Novak's rise to stardom, and is less interesting to me. That said, this book brings another great reminder of how devastating drug addiction can be, and if Novak's intent is to send out a warning to anyone who even thinks about dabbling in heroin, I think he has succeeded. I read this book without being able to put it down. Highly recommeded!
