Book Overview

Dream Wolf is Paul Goble's tribute to the Plains Native American culture.

Lost and afraid, two young children seek shelter in a wolf's cave. There they meet a kindly wolf who leads them home. Based on a Plains Native American legend, this exceptional picture book demonstrates the love and respect the Plains Native Americans have for the wolf and the natural world.

Ethereal and Hypnotic Effect

The images in this book have an ethereal and hypnotic affect depicting the reverence to nature the wolf held to the Native Americans. As two Native American children become lost and take shelter in a cave a protective wolf appears in a dream and upon awakening the wolf fulfills the dream. This allegorical tale of the beauty and wonderment that the nurturing spirit of the wolf represents is poetically told in inedible images in this wonderful book. The wolf is one with land and should never be ravaged or exploited but revered as part of the wonderment and beauty that is nature.

Dream Wolf symbolizes trust, hope

Another Native American tale I adore. The brillant rich drawings speak when the words do not. A story of two children who place their trust into a wolf who leads them back to their home and how the wolf is honored for doing so. It is still hopeful that someday we will capture that which has been lost to us. The love of the land and honoring the animals.
