A great book about Dragons, MORE THEN FIVE STARS!

I love this book, but at the beggining I was kind of confushed about who was the main charcter. Jondalrun is the farther of two sons, Johan and his older brother Dayon who left his farther a while back. Now in the beggining I thought Johan was the main charcter, but Amsel is, a person who does research on many things. So Johan get his clider and tried it out and flew, but then a dragon comes out of the sky and attacks, and Johan falls from the sky to the rocky sea below, and found dead by his farther. In Rage his farther blames it on Amsel, who he believes is a Simbalese who are the rich folk. Thats the beggining, I won't tell you more, you just have to check out the book for yourself, But I must tell you, it's as good as the Lord of the Ring! And I'm glad theres a book out there as good as the series! I say this wondeful book is a tresure that should be put on a book store shelf for many, many more years! What a wonderful book! Great Fantasy

When you buy and start reading this book, forget all about other fantasystories. No supergood heroes and superbad villains. No, they're just people, like you and me. Even the dragons have their weak points. But what a fantastic story !!! From the first to the last page a world comes to life, that really could exist. I only hope that there is a good sequel to this story. It is it worth to learn more about this world, where magic doesn't work, but real life does.

Excellent Old-Style Fantasy

I first read this novel about 15 years ago and always wondered why it was never reprinted. It is a well-told tale, enjoyable to read, and in a style reminiscent of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. The characters interact well together and there is excellent depth to them. It is not predictable nor does it fit into the tight little cliched fantasy that is so prevalent today. If you want a solid fantasy read, this is the one for you.

A book to disapear into !

This book wraps one into it's story like a dream. I HIGHLY recommend it to all who love daydreams and dragons. If you have a child or the child within needs a release, get this book. I was looking for a part two, hoping to read how Amsel and the the story continues. If you find one let me know :-)

Amazingly Wondrous, a Masterpeice!

I found this book in my school library (in 7th grade? I can't remember) and just LOVED. It was the first true fantasy book of great size that I've read. Like the other reviewer, it was the illustraed version I read. The book invokes fantastic images of the wrold it's in. It's been almost 5 years since I've read it, and still I can call to mind some of the various events in it. A boy dies of a tragic accident. Blame is put on a country across the sea and their flying ships. A journey is made. Huge trees that contain whole homes. Mysterious jewels and a dragon they are connected too. Some evil plots by a woman with extremely long nails. And the coldrakes (well, not dragons anyways) that are lead by a half dragon/half coldrake (I think) that is the cause of much trouble. The book is superb, and if I could buy it from my old school's librarien I would. (The same person who bought the 1st editition Belgariad paperback that I read at that same Library.) You'll love it if you can find it! (and please remember that I can barely remember what happened in it!)
