Eath's greatest hero...is from outerspace!Dragon Ball introduces a young monkey-tailed boy named Goku (a wry update of the classic Chinese "Monkey King" legend), whose quiet life changes when he meets a girl named Bulma who is on a quest to collect seven "Dragon Balls." If she gathers them all, an incredibly powerful dragon will appear and grant her one wish. But the precious orbs are scattered all over the world, and Bulma could use the help of a certain super-strong boy... (In Japan, Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z were originally a single 42-volume series. VIZ Media's Dragon Ball contains vols. 1-16 of the original Japanese Dragon Ball, from the beginning of the series to the climax of Goku's last fight with Piccolo.) It's the "Strongest Under the Heavens" martial arts tournament, and the world's greatest fighters have gathered! But Kuririn, Goku, Tenshinhan and Yamcha face mighty enemies. Taopaipai the assassin has returned as a cyborg--and Goku and Tenshinhan are on his hit list! A mysterious young woman has a grudge against Goku. The only "mystery" about bumbling salaryman Shen is how he made it to the final rounds. And the last contestant is the new and improved Piccolo, for whom the championship is just a stepping stone to take over the world...
In the series of books I read there were really strong martial artist. Also there were these small spheres about the size of softballs when you collect all seven they grant you one wish. So in the story they go around and collect them. The main character is Goku. He is a fourteen year old. Most other characters say it makes you happy to be around him. To compare me and him you would have to compare where we grew up he grew up in the woods I grew up in Bethalto. Well Goku is really confident. I guess you could say we are the same there. He always wears a orange Gi and a blue under shirt. He also always wears a blue belt and armbands. I loved this book it was soooo good. My favorite part was the world tournaments called The Strongest Under The Heavens. I liked it because I like fighting. I recommend these books to any one who likes action and adventure.

Okay, this volume continues from the last one, the finalists for the Tenkaichi Budokai have been selected. Our characters, now adults like at the beginning of DBZ, going to face each other in some tough battles. There's some great fights--- Piccolo, er, Ma Jr. vs. Kuririn, Goku vs. Tenshinhan, and Yamcha vs. Shen, and thankfully, unlike the DB anime there's no stalling. It gets right down to business first thing, so it's not a 3-episode wait between each battle. This is where things heat up, and the events that directly lead into Dragonball Z will begin here. If you're a fan like me who wants to check out what happened before Goku knew he was an alien, I especially suggest checking out this edition.
