Good Characters, Some Plot Problems.....

Dr. Yes is the story of Rachel: a modish nose-beringed heroine, who has become a tour guide in Tibet to escape her life in the states. Rachel is a delightful heroine, whose libido and attitude I found quite refreshing in the era of vapid dumb-girl action heroes, at least until the end. I was disappointed that the author felt she had to make "Rachel's personality modish hair a 'defense mechanism.'" Can't a woman just LIKE having pink hair and a nose ring for goodness sake? Why does she have to be 'compensating' for anything? *sigh* And why can't the hero like her for who/what she is without wanting to change her? I felt a bit let down about that plot device.I DID like the Hero, Harrison, however, but felt he needed to grow a bit. I was disappointed he was still the same character throughout the novel and was never really developed well. I would be interested in hearing more about his work, considering he was one of the few male members of the all-female organization. The plot about the Yes drug, meandered and wasn't dealt with sufficiently. Overall, this novel had some great characterization, but I felt a bit let down by the weak ending. I would recommend this novel for those who are looking for a funny romance with a non-traditional heroine.

I Say Yes

Dr Yes is the second in the B.L.I.S.S. series of spy spoofs and I found it a fascinating read. All of the author's usual self-deprecating humor was there in her characters (making them very sympathetic and understandable) but on top of that the story offered a wonderful tour of a part of the world I will never be brave enough to explore on my own. I enjoyed it very much.

Second in the B.L.I.S.S is a must!

B.L.I.S.S. is Dorchester Publishings new Spy Spoof line...female spies that fight the terrible villains of L.O.V.E.R. - League of Violent Economic Revolutionaries - eh, tree-huggers gone radical?? . The other books in the exciting new B.L.I.S.S. line include From Boardwalk with Love by Nina Bangs and The Loving Daylights by Lynsay Sands. I have been sort of going in reverse, having read Lynsay's first - and it's an utter howl. I had broken ribs at the time I was reading hers and it HURT because I was unable to stop laughing. Then I read Nina Bang's. And it was so good!! They are fresh, sexy and so funny!!I just finished the 2nd in the series, Lisa's...these are a series obviously, but not really dependant upon the other. You will just want to read them all and cannot wait to see what others will follow in this fresh line.Every time I catch Lisa Cash in writer's chat, she is either coming or going to some exotic locale. She loves to travel, and her wonderful books benefit for her journeys. Dr. Yes, especially. She is rich in details of the faraway places, but she never lets that overwhelm her characters. She always creates quirky, down to earth people that keep you thoroughly entertained. In Dr. Yes, her character, unlike Lynsay's Book and Nina's book, is not a B.L.I.S.S agent. Rachel Calais is a guide in Nepal, and dashing Harrison Wiles come to her with a request to lead an expedition in the Himalayas on behalf of B.L.I.S.S. to stop the evil villain of the moment. In this case, the seemingly boyish, shy Dr. Alan Archer, the former lover of Rachel, and she knows he is searching for the lost city of Yonam and the rare plant that when refined turned every woman in sex slaves. She knows she must stop him, so she accepts the request to help B.L.I.S.S save the women of the world. They equip her with all sorts of "Q" gadgets and give her Harrison as back up. There is suspense, humour and lot of sizzling sexual tension.I highly recommend ALL THREE in the B.L.I.S.S. book. Each are gems!!

humorous espionage romance

In Katmandu, Nepal, native Nepalese Betl and American Harrison Wiles of B.L.I.S.S. ask expatriate American tour guide Rachel Calais to help them on a dangerous mission. They need Rachel to lead a trek in search of the legendary city of Yonam where beautiful women allegedly catered to male desires. Harrison believes that a drug causes the obedience that is worse than even date rape drugs as the victim remains lucid while participating in their own depravity. B.L.I.S.S. fears that American Dr. Alan Archer seeks the elixir to take back to the west with him. They want Rachel to serve as his guide and insure he returns with none of the odious elixir that he would synthesize in his lab.Rachel and Harrison work together to stop Dr. Archer from becoming Dr. Yes with any woman he meets. The duo also tries to ignore their own attraction to one another, but neither can say no to the other even without the aid of a drug. They fall in love, but both know they must first stop Archer and his ploy to control women. The second B.L.I.S.S. espionage romance is an entertaining high adventure that like its delightful predecessor (see FROM BOARDWALK WITH LOVE) spoofs the macho spy crowd. The amusing story line will remind readers of the Flint movies. The dynamic duo struggles with magnetic heat that can melt the snow of the Himalayas if they are not careful while the villain seems more out of the Maxwell Smart rogue gallery than that of Bond. Still readers of humorous satirical romantic intrigues will say yes to Lisa Cach's latest thriller.Harriet Klausner
