This book is by no means just about tongue and fingernail diagnosis. There is information on how to "read" the eyes, skin and so on also. I heard about this book as a total newbie. It sounded interesting and I haven't been disappointed; in fact it has given me a whole new outlook on health care. Having recently been disappointed with several experiences with traditional western medicine, it was quite an eye opener to see that eastern medicine can diagnose much more quickly and easily at times, and for free! For example...2 or 3 blood tests initially did not show I was hypothyroid, though that later turned out to not be true. This book said to touch my little finger to my thumb and if the index finger was longer than the ring finger I was predispopsed to be hypothyroid! There were many, many other fascinating facts in this book. I honestly think it could - and no doubt does - save some people's lives, and overall health, by alerting them to problems which western medicine does not pick up on until the patient is in big trouble. You can get the book cheaper elsewhere though! The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because though everything it said about me was true, I don't know enough to say that would be the case for others. I wish this man would write a follow up book.
Fingernail and Tongue Diagnosis Classic?

I am a student of Chinese medicine, first year, and looked forward to this book, which was highly recommended. It is very didactic and gives many examples of different shapes and qualities of the fingernails, their basic meanings, and supports it with claims of fastidious research. However, it does not give any physilogical explanation of HOW the nail reacts to changes in the body, for instance, heat in the Large Intestine results in the middle finger developing white spots at the tips that expand according to the severity of the condition, but it does not explain why the nails reflect the different body states. One of the problems with the book is that it does not talk much about theory, only gives different examples of clinical experience, which was then interpreted to mean different things from the thousands of cases cited. The tongue section is equally helpful, and more detailed than the fingernail section. Advantage? Do you know of another book that breaks down the fingernails like this one? I don't either. Any tool that we have for diagnosis without the use of machinery is precious. Thanks Doctor Chi for sharing all of your case studies. He also talks in the book about a "Wheel" that makes diagnosis easier. Be sure to ask that this wheel be included with the book. it is supposed to accompany the text. Great Faith=Great Works!
