If you are a Baptist of any kind, but specifically an American Baptist, and you want to know where our faith began and what influenced it to become what it is today, this is the book for you. It shares briefly and understandably about Baptist history, and then lays down some basic Baptist theological distinctions. And the author does this well. I highly recommend it.
Gives you everything that Baptist history holds

This handy little book is a history of the Baptist faith, from its foundation by a congregation of English expatriates in early seventeenth century Holland, right up to today. Along the way, the author does an excellent job of showing how the Baptist faith evolved and changed, and even goes into the challenges it faces today. This is an excellent book on the history of the Baptists, one that I highly recommend to Baptists and those interested in them. There is a lot about Baptist history that I did not know, and was quite intrigued to find out. But, what I found most interesting is the picture the author paints of modern Baptists, and their lack of knowledge about their own history and beliefs. The author does not gloss over anything in Baptist history (the section on the slavery debate was quite interesting), but gives you everything that Baptist history holds. So, if you are interested in the Baptists, then I highly recommend this book to you.
