A bit different but enjoyable

The approach, with the main character a bit battle-damaged, is a little different and I found it refreshing. Thomas Wall is a rather messed up, is single-minded in his desire to find his brother with the apparent intent to kill him, and is being used by almost everyone. I thought the plot interesting but understandable. I think if you liked John Lawton's "Blackout" you would also like this.

A new espionage classic

Joel Ross has written a riviting first novel in the vein of Le Carre, Gerald Seymour and other masters of the modern espionage thriller. Well written with strong characters, the book grips one immediately and the plot is inventive and entertaining. Ross evokes a picture of wartime London with a keen eye and vivid language. Anyone who enjoys this genre will be pleased to welcome a very talented new author to historical espionage fiction.

Excellent book

Since I've studied World War II for years I'm very skeptical when it comes to literature about it. I've read hundreds of fictional and non-fictional accounts, and this is one of the best that I've had the chance to read. I was up half the night finishing it. The battle scenes he recounts from Crete are very real and well done. The plot is imaginative and well shaped throughout the book, the ideas behind it are also realistic and fit in with the situation that the world found itself in during December of 1941. Definitely a book worth reading.

Wonderful Spy Story

This is the best book I have read in years and I read a lot of novels. Absolutly spellbinding. I stayed up all night reading it even though I had to go to work the next day. i see why Patricia Cromwell thought it was great. I recommend it to anyone even those who don't read this type of story often. It's the best!

Fast-paced WWII Thriller

I don't normally go in for books like this, but I found I couldn't put Double Cross Bind down. Yes, it's a World War II thriller, and we all know how WWII turned out, but Ross successfully takes us back to a time when no one knew what dramas were ahead - when the outcome of the war was impossible to predict. The tension, the high stakes, the sense of a life that was so different from ours all come through. The details that give a sense of place and time are all there, but they don't weigh the narrative down. It is a quick, exciting read and I recommend it unreservedly.
