Dorian Greyhound - A Dog's Tale

Straight from the canine's mouth comes this truly Wilde narrative of the life and times of Dorian Greyhound. From his lowly origins and brutish upbringing to his well-deserved position as cherished family member, this self-made dog marks a lot of territory, though he would blush (if he could) to admit it. With a dry wit and as much candor as his old-school manners allow, he recounts his physically and emotionally harrowing journey from an Arizona...

Awesome

I enjoyed this book (and you will, too) because it shows how truly awesome greyhounds are!

I'm hoping for a sequel

Perfect. I read Dorian Greyhound in one sitting, then read it again - and got choked up at the ending both times through. Disclosure: I'm the coauthor of ANIMALS IN TRANSLATION, and I read Dorian Greyhound in manuscript. I was amazed at the way Sheryl Longin, working in her own corner of the world, had captured and dramatized the ideas about animal thinking Temple and I were writing about in our book. None of us had ever met, but we were talking about the same phenomenon. It's a strange thing to say, but Sheryl Longin has an 'ear' for animals! After I read Dorian Greyhound, I told Sheryl that in a perfect world I would have a new Dorian book sitting under the Christmas tree each year. I still feel that way, and I hope Sheryl Longin doesn't stop at one.

So Much Like My GreyThound

This was a sweet, well written book and very authentic. I have a retired racer also and this book could have been written about him. A great, quick read for anyone who would like to know about life with a Greyhound and for those who already do! I only wish it had been a little longer.

A Warm and Beautiful Autobiography

Dorian Greyhound is adored and loved by his so-called owners. He is actually the master and kindly lets the human beings share the home---as long as they promise to behave themselves. Dorian will steal your heart away. He valiantly overcomes the trials and tribulations of being something of an abandoned canine compelled to make a new life for himself in the strange land of California. A newborn baby enters the picture. Tess is a little girl and demands a lot of attention. Dorian Greyhound worships the ground she walks on. She is now the center of his universe. The publisher promises to correct the mistake on the front cover of the book. Somehow Sheryl Longin's name, the "beloved mistress," is wrongly listed as author. Dorian Greyhound was not in the least bit pleased. Oh well, he decided to cut her a bit of slack. His justified retaliation was limited to tearing up the living room couch. "They are only human," adds Dorian. What can one expect from such second class creatures? God created the world for the dogs. Homo sapiens were merely a last minute addition. Maybe someday they will learn their place in the universe's pecking order. Dorian Greyhound at least hopes this is the case.

Terrific animal fiction in the tradition of Ackerley

I loved this witty tale of greyhound Dorian written in a style which is more Ackerley than Wilde, but with a tinge of both. My only criticism is that it is too short - looking forward to a sequel.
