Excellent Read!

Other reviews have just about covered everything, so I will just say that this is one of Laurie's best yet. We get to know Candace better and wow, is she an interesting and funny, brave character! I was happy that Dutch was included throughout the book and we have been introduced to a new character--Agent Harrison. We have a wonderful mystery, funny and romantic read. The only down side is that we have to wait until next September for another Abby adventure. I hope that all the characters are involved and wish that Milo could join the FBI too. Great read. If you are an Abby fan you will simply love this one.

Great Read!

I suppose I should put a disclaimer in with this review- I LOVE Victoria Laurie, all of her books so far have been beyond engrossing to me so I suppose I'm a little bit biased Still though- this book I think is one of her best so far. It's a fascinating read, with likable characters who are easy to relate to. I'm not going to spoil the story by saying anything about it- I will warn you though don't try to read this one at work, I made that mistake and had real trouble putting it down to actually get any work done. My only complaint is not having the next one out to read yet, I guess I'll just have to wait and suffer :)

I Love it!

Abby is back, and I can't believe there have been 7 books already, it's just not enough! This is a great chapter for Abby, really spooky environment, lots of realistic skepticism on the part of the FBI, Abby keeps wowing them! It was great to see Abby in other parts of the Midwest, especially my hometown of Chicago. I liked getting to know Candace better, but we need more of Eggy & Tuttle. Never can have too many dachshunds! The ending is great, and I can't wait for more stories from one of my other favorite cities. Keep them coming Victoria! Make sure you work the Bat Bridge into the plot in the future, it's my fav spot in one of my fav cities!

spellbinding whodunit

Psychic Abby Cooper and private investigator Candice share an office where they meet their clients. They are a formidable team who has made a positive impression on FBI Special Agent In Charge Bill Gaston. He asks them to come to DC to work on a task force with other agents headed by politically connected Brice Harrington, who opposes Abby on the team because he believes psychics are con artists. To prove his point to the others, Brice constructs a biased test, but to his shock, Abby passes rather easily; finding a murder-suicide in the house next door to where one of the tests were held. They earn their place on the task force searching for three missing college students whose only connection seems to be each one has a parent in a political office. They later learn that they all attended with their parents the same conference two years ago. Abby leans from looking at pictures of the missing students that two are dead and the other is dying. Abby's personal crew of spirit guides escort her and Candice in directions that yield clues as to whom is behind the deadly abductions. When a fourth student is kidnapped, Abby, Candice and Brice team up as the latter is now a firm believer. Victoria Laurie has written a new spellbinding psychic eye whodunit made refreshed by the heroine, used to non-believers in general, on a team made up of non-believing veteran law enforcement skeptics with only her partner knowing what she can do. She changes their mocking opinions when her predictions prove true. The audience will admire the courageous Abby as she diligently works hard at trying to understand what her crew are telling her. At times the story line is amusing especially when Abby constantly trumps Brice who is a believer in the by the SOP investigation until she converts him, but neither lose perspective that the surviving kid(s) comes first. Ms. Laurie takes Abby Cooper to a new level!

I have been a great fan of the Abby Cooper series, and everything else author Victoria Laurie has written. She is not only a talented author, she is a gifted psychic and a wonderfully nice lady. She also had dogs and a parrot, and that alone makes her a BFF with me - The Abby Cooper Psychic Eye Mystery series has been about a young psychic, Abby Cooper, who lives in the Detroit area, and makes her living as a psychic. She also gets involved in adventures and found a wonderful boyfriend, Dutch, an FBI agent, a handyman, Dave, who seems to always be fixing things, a rich sister and lots of material to make great fodder for adventures. Ms. Laurie uses her own experiences as a psychic not only to give life to Abby, but uses her knowledge to help us, the lay people, understand what it is to be a psychic and the process one uses to communicate with the 'Crew' of guides to help folks. She has also blossomed to a Ghost Hunters Mystery series, and has a wonderful hardback novel Oracles of Delphi Keep, which is aimed for those of us who are Harry Potter fanatics - in other words, aimed for kids of all ages who love magic, adventure, and imaginative happenings! But I digress! Doom With a View is the best of the Abby Cooper series and Ms. Laurie has taken the present day economy and mixes that in the story. Abby has been asked by the FBI to give them help with a missing persons case, and Abby agrees. She and Candace, her great friend, business partner and PI with an attitude, proceed to the FBI and try to prove to Fibbie skeptic Brice Harrison that Abby's the real deal. The old favorites, Dutch, Dave, and the pups are also there, but this is a tour de force for Abby and Candace. Candace and Harrison seem to butt heads more than they should, but it seems there may be more to Harrison than meets the eye - oh and he's cute too! Ms. Laurie makes a bold move with all of her beloved characters at the end of the book, and that opens up a whole new world for all the characters. The economy in Detroit is especially bad, and Laurie takes the gang to an area that is not only necessary for the characters' jobs, but one that Ms. Lauries knows well. Doom With a View is a fun read that will keep you guessing until the last second, exciting, and romantic as usual. Victoria Laurie has always been an author to watch, so if you have not read her books yet, time to get caught up and join the fun. She writes with an elegant ease that puts you firmly in the action. An excellent read.
