Book Overview

As he sets out for the store, the boy's mother reminds him, Six farm eggs, a cake for tea, a pound of pears, and don't forget the bacon.

On his way, he repeats, Six fat legs...a cape for me...a flight of stairs...and don't forget the bacon. Or was it six clothes pegs...a rake for leaves...a pile of chairs...and don't forget the bacon?

Well, at least he was sure to remember the bacon

Don't Forget the Bacon

I love all of Pat Hutchins books. I have been reading them to children for many years. Don't Forget the Bacon is lots of fun for children who are old enough to have to remember several things at once and know how hard that can be. I think it will be enjoyed most by children who are late pre-school through early elementary age.

A TRUE CLASSIC!

Me and my sister's read this book as children til it literally fell apart. One day, out of the blue I remembered this book while reading another childhood favorite (hop on pop by dr.seuss) to my [...] son. it is now a part of our bedtime ritual - he loves it!!! It is such a great feeling to see him enjoying the same things that i liked as a young child...

A pure delight

I ran accross this book while browsing and it brought back such fun remembrances of reading to my children when they were at that delightful young age. This, as well as, "The doorbell rang" were always favorites. Cute illustrations and funny entertaining story lines. A true gem.

My son is 15, and this is still his favorite book!

I bought "Don't Forget the Bacon" at a library book sale for $.25. It had been taped and rebound several times. At the time my daughter was 5 years old and my son was 2. We would curl up together and read it over and over each night. They loved to chime in: "...and don't forget the bacon." It remained a part of our bedtime story ritual for many years. When my son entered kindergarten, he insisted on taking it to share with his class for show-and-tell. Although it is quite worn out now, I kept it as a keepsake with some of their other childhood books and toys. My daughter is now a freshman at the University of Illinois at, and my son is a freshman at Marian Catholic High School. This Friday, I will be presenting a workshop on Shared Reading as part of an inservice training for the teachers in my school district. I immediately thought of "Don't Forget the Bacon" as the perfect read aloud book. My son eagerly help me find it, curled up in my lap, and insisted that I read it! We shared many fond memories that night. After calling several book stores to get a new copy, I was delighted to find it on the WEB. I'm looking forward to receiving the new book, but I'll still treasure the $.25 copy (which I have to retape again!) because of the joy of reading it instilled in my children.

A classic in the making--one I will treasure always

Captivating, endlessly twirling thoughts, pictures and words into a work of literature, NOT a picture book. It changed me internally--and I will never forget the startling ending. A perfect example of "plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose", Don't Forget the Bacon is something that children and adults should read--if not treasure.
