I've been reading this book as part of my research for my doctoral dissertation and have found it incredibly interesting. The author has put this work together in a way that it's approachable to readers with various interests and backgrounds. The use of original ancient source material and photos of artwork depicting Roman physicians at work stood out, making this book the best tome I've found so far that offers a stepping off point for further research into subjects tied to medical care available during the Empire.
A must-read for all interested in medical history

This was a good, well-written, interesting book. It gives you a peak at the horrible lives of people living thousands of years ago. It is a good overview while at the same time it gives you enough detail that you really understand what was going on. You should really read this book, although it's not a pleasent topic, as such. It creates some vivid pictures in your mind, but ones that could be importnat in many lines of work.
