A little pricey for what you get...

It was a great story, only I felt it was a little pricey compared to other Doc Who stories. The only other thing I hated was a "save the earth" undertone. If you can stomach the "save the earth" thing than this is the story for you! It has adventure, and it has time in the TARDIS. It is a wonderfully fun story that is like watching an episode. The characters felt true to the tv characters so there are no complaints there. I enjoyed this read and would recommend it to anyone! You will not be disappointed in this book!

It Has Its Moments

This book is exactly what I was hoping for: A Doctor Who episode in book form. All the elements are there, you've got the Doctor, Rose, an alien planet with aliens... What more could I ask for? It's a super quick read. I read it in a day and I'm a slow reader. There is a rarely a slow moment in the novel. However, all the plot twists are incredibly predictable. Many of them you can see coming from a long way off, but hey, I wasn't looking for plot twists, nor do I generally expect them in Doctor Who, so I have no real problem with this. In fact, very little in the novel seemed unlike Doctor Who. The Doctor and Rose both stayed very true to the characters in the show. The only part which seemed the tiniest bit out of character for the Doctor was when he suggested he was greatly involved in a final edit of Hamlet. Considering he did meet Shakespeare the 2007 season and they clearly hadn't met before, this idea is a bit out of place, but with a time traveler it's not impossible. The only problem I had with this line was that in "The Shakespeare Code" the Doctor seems to have the greatest respect for Shakespeare and doesn't seem like he'd have ever edited anything the man wrote. Other than this, there are moments while reading this when I burst out laughing for how true the Doctor was being to his character. All in all, it was a very entertaining tale.

Kind of a classic...

The story is a mystery set on an alien planet. There is action, adventure, monsters, but not a lot of gore or violence. The Tenth Doctor is at his best when trying to solve the mystery, pulling all the clues together in one big pile and working on them till he gets an answer. Both Rose and the Doctor seem to be in character and the setting is interesting, along with a few of the ideas that make up the theme of the novel. The idea of a truly balanced planet, where everything in nature works together, is the main merit of this paradise. And its greatest danger. A good travel book. Light, solid, worth a once over. Has the feeling of a young adult novel or a Doctor Who episode from the 60's and 70's.

you want it?

You want the doctor? You've got the doctor. You want Rose? You've got Rose. You want wit and a twisty space plot? You've got those too. You want a complete summary of the book? Go somewhere else, I'm just here to tell you that this book is really good, and if you miss Rose/Doctor humor, peril, and repressed emotions, you should most definatly read it. Think of it as a missing episode, and you won't dissapointed.

Makes you miss Billie Piper.

Though Martha is outstanding as a partner to The Doctor, many of us still miss Rose. Fortunately there are books out that still partner her with The Doctor and "The Price of Paradise" was a delight for sore eyes.
